Description
Have some dravenes with various coloured crests. This was made mainly to be an excuse to explain that their feather cluster on their head is a crest, not hair. And of course I can't just leave explaining to this short. (Also, background... I think: "just a random color wash", I make: *scribbles a quite many random and not that random symbols*)
So, that is a crest consisted of "feathers" and not a mohawk for example (I know I'm gradually blind to that possibility that their crest may look like a mohawk to some people, I'm stared them since 2003 so I'm pretty well aware that they have a crest, not hair at all). This crest which grows (and fades off on the other end) constantly, so it stays the same length. Basically the crest can be in any color (only one hue), just that it is mostly in broken tone. Colorless (gray/black) is very rare yet not impossible.
The crest matters a lot to dravenes. They typically don't have too good face memory but they remember crest. Crest's color, tint, length, number of feathers, growing direction of feathers and overall shape matter more than all other species can ever understand.
Very bright crest is consider attractive. The crest's length matters too, longer is better (even if good shaped crest is a sign of good health, dravenes themselves can't tell too well WHY the crest matters maybe the most of what they look at others). So, bright and long crest = you're good looking and have +10 charisma bonus. (In this case dravenes are like birds, they look at the feathers... They also sing often but not really to attract anyone rather than just give out feelings after too much beer.)
I should be sorry that here are so much more males than females; only 1 1/2 of these guys are biologically females. Pride is not count. Dravene!Pride is not even real, besides it doesn't fit to dravene colour rules at all. Even if those ridiculously magenta feathers would work, not any dravene has magenta eyes or skin colour which would be seen only someone who has been dead for a day in cooled place and all blood drained out. Looking like a queer performance artist in drugs is optional.
I planned some wannabe-group image at first, but here are characters from four different ages, so I decided it's not good to meet your great-grandfather or a historical person (the one with blackish feathers, named Black Sun, lived so long ago that he has a half-mythical history. That stripe below his eye is a tattoo, not a real feature. Aaand that one with dark brown crest who has somewhat dim looking eye...he got a scratch from a sword, and even if the eye survived, his sight of that eye is almost gone.)
*forces self to shut up or else this would become a book who actually are these characters*
ยค Brush pen, aquarels, white gouache, white liner. Dravenes are mine. Yes, they are green mammals. Yes, I like to draw them. Even if that kind of dark blueish/grayish green is so far the trickiest green I've met.

Great work! I like the culture you've given these creatures, it shows that they mean much to you!

Thanks, and well guessed. c: They appeared somewhere at 2003, were there a while, kept a hiatus, came back and now are my best developed species with a way too much cultural, biological, psychic and physical information and rather personal creatures to me.

And not only girls...
Well, you know how much I like to draw humans...so instead of them I used some time to learn how to make various faces for dravenes. |'D (If I have any courage I maybe should someday show how they looked in 2004 because I had the ever-so-famous copypaste-face syndrome.)
Everybody like Aruka. (At least I do, he has become much deeper character than I ever would have thought in 2004.)

Oooh and now I am interested in the names of these Dravenes. If Black Sun has such a 'sign', what are the others called?

I have shown Rainer, Aruka and Arthury (second, third, fourth) already...and Pride but that is not count. x> The others may appear some day with actually some information.
Black Sun was his name and he has a sign with the same name. Other backround scribbles vary from "well this was random" to "this has actually some symbolism behind" (okay, most of them have some weird symbolism behind).
