Description

A tiny guide for Digimon fans about Holy Rings and their strange text. This is to help clarifying what exactly it is.

These markings are so said "digimoji", katakana letters in Digital World (also known as DigiCode, DigiKana and DigiLetters). This "Digital Monster" is not the only phrase in existence, but it's the one used on Holy Rings. When these markings appear on a Digimon, they usually mean something (often in Japanese).

Nää Digikirjaimet on tosi jänniä!

Voisisinhan itsekkin opettella ne tuolla tavalla Oli sitten ihan pakko eilen opetella kirjoittamaan oman nimensä ja kaikkea muutakin noilla kirjaimilla XD

Digimon with Holy Rings apparently need a reminder than they are Digital Monsters. =w=

arent you forgetting about Omegamon sword and Dukemon shield? Either way I always wonder why those letters where engraved.

If I included all the digimon with "Digital monster" -digikana, this thing would be a way too big. (Besides Omegamon's sword has other text than "Digital monster", it's "All delete")

heres a question, why there is some certain Digimon that have the letters?
Also, why some also have the skull symbol that phantomon has on his forhead?

Oooh. I knew it was Digicode on the rings but I didn't realize they all said the same thing, or what it was that they said

I feel bad now 'cause I'm guilty of "random symbols" holy rings xD; They were drawn too small on paper to even attempt Digicode, and I just never got around to fixing it digitally >_> Now I think I should, haha.

OH MY I wish you'd posted this before I did Wizardmon's cape. I had to guess at the heiroglyphs from a variety of not-terribly-good pictures. I did okay, looking at this, but I entirely left out Ji, Ta and Ru and sort of improvised the others a bit too much o.o

Oh well, it'll still help on the many occasions I draw MarineAngemon c:

Hard to post anything before it's finished. |> But anyway, I thought some people wouldn't know this and I was surprised that most of people (who commented) didn't know this thing, or at least right letters. So-o-o...enjoy.

I just sort of make this pattern:

Across the ring.

Thanks for the reference.

Anime uses often textless or just that simple pattern counterparts, but deepest designs include text too.

Lol. I finished an anubismon pic only some days ago beacuse I had to look for those damn symbols to write them right on his pants xD. It´s nice for people that don´t know it, I knew that holy rings had that inscription but until last week that I searched for that didn´t noticed, for example, abour growlmon markings and other stuff. Sooo nice x).

Write in digikana is hard to me, I think I´d use the roman alphabet better for own monsters.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Sysirauta In reply to SheeKNS [2010-12-08 15:36:50 +0000 UTC]

Anubismon should need better reference art too...and some anime appearance. |>

I've understood the mechanism of katakana so digikana is not a problem... That text "de ji ta ru mo n su ta a" (arrow means long vowel, not exactly an "a") is like "digital monster" is pronounced in a country which pronounces text like it's written. Logic in Japanese and Finnish is so same that it was not a proplem for me, but I don't wonder that many people are somewhat lost HOW this works. Royal Knights is "ro i ya ru na i tsu". ... Problems occur when we need difference between l and r and Japanese has no l... And for me, neither Japanese or English include letter "y" in the way how I pronounce it. ... Language soup...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SheeKNS In reply to Sysirauta [2010-12-09 11:47:34 +0000 UTC]

Yeah...Find a ref is heellish...

Arrow means long vowel?? Always thought it was an space or something like that (fails xD).Spanish also pronounce like it´s read (1 vowel, 1 sound), but sometimes it cost to me make links between things like "dejitaru monsuta" and "digital monster" when it´s a more complicated phrase. For example, I would never think about "royal knights" = "ro i ya ru na i tsu", while I read it "ro yal na it". So I don´t think I´d do a good translation to digikana from spanish x(. L lacks is a pain in the ass...confuses meh @_@. I think they use soft "r" sound as "l" and strong "r" as "r", but i´m not sure...

I pronounce "y" in two ways, one like "i" (acting like a vowel) and other like "ll" (acting like consonant).

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Sysirauta In reply to SheeKNS [2010-12-09 15:39:09 +0000 UTC]

Japanese language doesn't make difference between r and l so everybody pronounce it as they feel...so some say it like l and some others like r and others between l and r, and that is all the same there. So if you need l, use r... Another thing is that Japanese has no space between words. ... Neither small and CAPITAL letters, just letters.

Finnish pronounces letters always the same way no matter where their place in a word is... That makes things much easier. But, still, only 0,1% of all people in the world can speak Finnish. x>
