This is an idea which comes from gogogadgetcopter in the IG Unlimited forum. He says it's just an idea he's tossing around, likely it won't get written. But I considered it a fun artistic challenge. A crossover between Inspector Gadget and The Borrowers.

What I've drawn here for Gadget I doubt matches Copter's steampunk idea for appearance, but it's a look I feel is somewhat fitting to concept. Oh, there is something in this take which comes to a point from canon content ...well however you want to viewpoint it. The '83 action toy has springs on the lower legs pretty similar to what I've drawn here.
