Description Lovely Shinerai let me borrow her esk boi to further propel my attempts at getting better at backgrounds. I drew her Esk Potato here overlooking the lands beyond his boundary "quaint farm" c: I hope you like it beb!

I'll add a small story to it again. I hope I portrayed tater in a way that you can agree with, Shin. Idk if he has the power to make potato saplings grow but I decided to use a little artistic freedom in that regard :9
"The small Esk almost snuffed at the ground. A little nose boop was given to the tiny potato saplings poking their heads out of their earthy bed. The smell of humus wafted through the warm afternoon air. A small breeze made the saplings bow and the leaves on the back of the Esk rustle gently. The creature lifted it's head up overlooking the long row of tiny plants assiduously photosynthesizing.Β

On the rim of the farmland a small fence was formed by unconnected planks rammed into the ground. The creature weaselled it's way through the rows of saplings reaching up on the first plank in an attempt to climb on top but quickly aborted it's endeavour when it saw that a part of it had broken of and sharp splinters pointed towards the slightly cloudy blue sky. Walking a few steps further the Esk reached up the second plank inspecting it's top. Apparently satisfied with what it found it dug tiny fingers into the wood and heaved itself on top of the plank. His prehensile back feet gripping the top of the plank like tiny clamps and using the weight of his long fluffy tail it pushed itself upright to overlook the premises. Gently curving hills bathed in sunlight rose behind the farmland and a dark pine forest crept up the meadows. Another cool breeze blew the plush clouds across the sky and deranged the tiny potato plant that grew on the back of the Esk. The small roots growing out of it's chest swayed in the wind.

The Esk overlooked the lands for a long time. Silently watching the sun sink towards the horizon. Late in the evening the sunset painted everything in vivid orange hues. When the last rays had escaped the horizon and the ground had eaten up the sinking star the Esk vanished from it's lookout as if it had never even been there. Just tiny marks where his fingers had dug into the brittle wood remained. Coming back to his crops the next day a flabbergasted farmer would find that his freshly planted potatoes had seemed to undergone a growth spurt."

I certainly did not expect a full illustration when you asked if you could borrow Tate! I was so pleasantly surprised to see it. I think you've been doing a fantastic job with backgrounds, and am glad you seem to be having as much fun as I using the TWWM verse to practice them! One thing I notice is that you are good at leaving details out where they aren't really needed (the far background), and putting details to emphasize the subject (the precious saplings which you've individually drawn and Tate).

Aside from the technical aspect, I think you've done a great job on story and atmosphere! I can feel the cooling light sinking away from Tate, right before sunset (which Chris calls "orange time"). I feel Tate's pride as he helps these tiny plants grow on a land that is sentimental to him, all under the nose of the current inhabits of what is likely his previous home.

You've gotten Tate's design perfect here. I love looking at the little leaves - did you use a brush? and I see his perfect gradient and tiny little roots! I also appreciate how you took care to depict your story; I see the splintered post, which would definitely have been very uncomfortable to perch on.

Thank you for the gift, and for depicting my Tate in a lovely way. I'm eager to see you continue on your journey in TWWM (especially backgrounds!)

Awh thanks so much for this lovely comment. I'm glad I depicted Tate accurately both in writing and drawing and I'm also glad you enjoyed it!
I used to struggle with the "leaving details out" thing a lot as one can see in my older backgrounds but I noticed that the ordeal of drawing a background is over MUCH faster if you do it so I forced myself to learned how to xD
I didn't use a brush for the leaves no I started with drawing the branches of the plant and then attached leaves individually with a hard round. I think that little plant there took longer than most of the background combined xD.
Thanks again for that comment. It was a pleasure to read c:Β

Background work is such a pain in the butt! Twwm taught me backgrounds as well, and I really love how you've portrayed this one! I especially love the sunlight/texture on the dirt. Great job!
