Illustrator? That's cool! I can do a little bit with Illustrator, but I can't manage do anything pony. Are there any tips you've learned about Illustrator that might help?

An artist tablet, pencil tool, and width tool are your best friends when working with Illustrator
(the artist tablet is optional, but it makes things get done a bazillion times faster and better looking)
Setting the Pencil Tool's Fidelity (double click on the pencil tool icon) one over from smooth helps (or completely smooth), but if you're working from a mouse than I'd go with the pen tool (I found that tool was easier on a mouse)
And the width tool can adjust the outlines to get those pointed ends

Wow! That was a really detailed response! Thank you! Usually people don't care to take the time to explain things like that.
I think this'll be really helpful! I'm hoping to get good with digital art stuff. I'm also hoping for an artists tablet this Christmas, so if I can get that, I think it'll help.
I created my icon in Illustrator, and then sent it to photoshop to color. I think it turned out ok, but I'm hoping to achieve better. Partially I just need to improve my OC's design.
Sorry, got distracted. Anyways, thanks so much for the help! I appreciate it, and hopefully I can put it to good use!
