It isn't a mammal, it is a synapsid, just as mammals are synapsids. Sort of a "sister" to mammals to simplify it. Dinosaurs and reptiles are all much more distantly related. Although, I have to admit, the way most people draw Dimetrodon it is hard to believe that it is related to mammals. They're almost always very shrink-wrapped and are inaccurately shown with lizard-like, sprawling legs.

Aye, he is one of our distant relatives, he was a Pelycosaur of the Sphenacodontia clade, we are members of the Sphencodontia clade as direct descendants from them, Dimetrodon is basically one of ourΒ distant "uncles", we may not be directly descendants of him, but we are part of the same family.

We have parts of Dimetrodon within us today, namely our teeth and our Temporal Fenestrae, which are very similar to those of Dimetrodon!

And the first dinosaurs came along 40 to 60 million years after its extinction.

I love the details you put onto Dimetrodon, very realistic.

that's pretty good. certainly worthy of any science book.

This is really beautiful (I think I like this even better than your color works!), very beautiful values and everything.

So that's close to a mammal eh? I should really get back into dinosaurs I used to love them so much.

Thank you. Yes it's hard to belive but this creature is really closer to us than to the dinosaurs. Anyway how you lost your interest in the dinosaurs. It's impossible. They are so cool!

Well there's the missing link science is looking for And...I dunno, I guess when I grew up and got interested in other things like astronomy (way, WAY more complicated) I wasn't as interested in dinosaurs as I was before...I still love them though!

There was a period when I was interested in astronomy (belive me paleontology isn't less complicated than astronomy) but paleontology always will be on the first place.
