The baby Bird Could have a broken Bone, I have Heard somewhere that when They break a Bone They will die.. I don't know why but I have Heard it somewhere.. I know how you feel :[ we have 2 zebra finches and sometimes the male knewed that one of their babies was sick, the male just threwed it into the water.. :[ so yeah The Mother probably knewed that it will die so she threwed the sparrow away and you have found it.. But She/he is in a better place :]

My cats brought back a few young House Sparrows, the little bugger.
It's so heart-breaking when they die. Sometime they have little punture marks that are really hard to see and the bacteria from the cats mouth just kills them. I put them in a tank with a towel covering it cause it's important to keep them quite cause of the shock but even so they normally have internal injuries or the like and you just go to check on them and their dead ;__;
Really lovely photo though, what a sweet little thing.

They really are, you just find yourself so attached to them.

thank you yes, this is the second year I tried to save a baby bird and failed. I heard its pretty hard though to keep them going once injured. If this keeps up I will end up with a bird cemetery in my back yard!

I am so sorry to hear that, Sometimes there is nothing that you can do (like with the one that I had that died) I wish with all my heart that she had lived
