While out looking for some black bears at the Alligator River Wildlife Refuge in North Carolina, I came across this photo opportunity, and could not resist. With wings fully spread, this is a Turkey Vulture (Cathartes aura) hunting on the updrafts for a meal to snag. It had plenty of wind to glide around on too, because it was all of 74 degrees and a stiff north wind blowing at around 25 miles per hour. I wasn't able to get out of my car in time, so this photo is taken through my windshield. Enjoy!Camera: Nikon D90

Thanks! Yeah, I wasn't sure I was going to catch a photo of this bird, but everything lined up. If you dig through my gallery some, you'll come across more birds, some of which are more clearly photographed than this one.
