There was a change in Zagi after his last fight with Yuri, in the cut see after the battle. He seemed less crazed and more innocent. Your right, if Yuri did try to understand him thing would have been different, Judith said, "No one understood him. So he put so much meaning on fighting. Poor thing..." And y'know, does grow on ya after awhile.

Hes a very random badguy. Comes out when you least expect him too. even appers in subquest to bother you.
He dosint really have a reason to attack ou other to kill the main guy.
Reality of it all is that he just wants to be friends, exept since hes psycho and never had any friends, he dosint understand his own feelings.
Well thats what i think.
People tend to ether love this charicter or just find him anoying and troublesome like the main party does
