Hey I got a question, how do you guys make custom terrain, I know you use the Terrain models but how do you suggest I go about doing this?

It's called scenebuilding. Basically, you take different models, and assemble them together to make a coherent "scene". Kinda like a collage. Some people mix textures and models to create new scenes, like applying a water texture on sand dunes to create waves.

Scenebuilding might look like a hard beast to tame, but it really isn't. It all boils down to what models you have at your disposal, and how much effort are you willing to put to make an scene you feel comfortable with. Personally, I begin by making sketches on paper, which I later try to recreate in Gmod, and altering until I get a shot I consider "good".

Most scenebuilds use the gm_black map. It's literally an empty void with no lighting, so they get absolute control over lightning and shadows. However, that's some advanced wizardry. The default flatgrass map is a good place to start. If you want to make, let's say, a forest scene, some trees and grass models are a good way to get the hang of things.

Above everything else, scenebuilding is about creating worlds and having fun doing so.

well you should place them making each model blend, can make it placing the props in different angles or position so you can create a variation in the environment
