Description Jamal and Jake, the best of friends, one's a saint, the other's a scamp, but which is which? The boy or snake? Who likes to play nice? Which one lives for vice? Of course if you're familiar at all with my series then you already know it's me. I'm the scoundrel! Jake's the nice guy.

The Toon 5some series has quite an interesting setup (if you're willing to analyze it through Freudian glasses). In spite of all its wacky screwball surrealist humor, my series is a show all about antisocial psychosis...or rather it is an exploration into the myriad of ways that such psychosis might manifest, and how one might try to cope with it. Those who are familiar with my series will have already likely noticed that 4/5 of the titular cast are all a couple of nickels short of a piggy bank. Whiskers is an aggressive homicidal maniac, Pyro has daddy issues ON TOP of abandonment issues, Ma-Caw is a mad scientist with an EXTREMELY bad case of ADHD, and I'm a delinquent sociopath, drunk off my own ego, possessed by an insatiable lust for sowing the seeds chaos and mayhem wherever I go. Out of all of us, Jake is the only pure one. He's the voice of reason amidst a din of frantic screams and wild laughter, he is the eye of the storm; the heart and conscience of our group...he is our very own Jiminy Cricket.

The relation between me and Jake, in particular, is especially something worthy of note as it is effectively Yin/Yang inside of a pentagram (and before anybody mentions it in the comments, kindly refrain from making any "Sanjay & Craig" references, please! I've been working on my series for almost a decade before that crap show was put on the air, and I'd like to imagine that my series has way more class than that "Adventure Time" rip-off!) Truly, Jake is the Yin to my Yang and conversely, I be the Yang to his Yin. He is the light and I am the dark. He is the saint and I am the sinner. He lives for virtue, I live for vice...I think you pretty much get the picture. He and I are like the odd couple in our little group of oddballs. To say that Jake is a boy scout would be an understatement. He's practically Jesus (ironic given that he's a serpent)! He goes out of his way dedicating himself to being outgoing, kind, and helpful to everyone he meets...even to those people who are unjustly cruel to him. I, on the other hand, am on the exact opposite of the spectrum. While I may not necessarily be the villain in our stories, I am not completely removed from certain villainous tendencies. In fact, on more than one occasion I have actively engaged in acts which some might say were quite...NAUGHTY. These dastardly deeds include trying to take over the world...THREE TIMES! My first megalomaniacal endeavor was when I tried to use Ma-Caw's new cloning machine to create an army of ME's to conquer the globe by sheer force of magnificence...it literally blew up in my face (that event is also what cursed me with my gay clone, Douglas Slacks). The second attempt was when I stole a magical amulet from Pyro's lab, and used it to raise an army of the dead to conquer and terrorize the world. Things went downhill however after Dorina stole the amulet and turned my own army against me, and the third time was when I rallied an army of mythical beasts who eventually got sick of my flamboyant ego and beat me without mercy for the next three weeks.

Of course even though we're polar opposites you'd be mistaken to think the two of us don't care about each other. Despite our differences, Jake and I are thick as thieves. Jake's got my back and I've got his. Although Jake certainly doesn't agree with my lifestyle choices and habitual immorality he does often accompany me on my wild misadventures and play along with my hair-brained schemes (to a point) to make sure I never go too far or become a fatal victim to my own unrepentant deviancy, and likewise I watch his back since Jake is such good-boy pacifist until he seldom ever fights back whenever he's been wronged. He'll bravely rise to defend the rights and welfare of another, but he's rarely willing to raise a hand in defense of himself.

One thing I never planned for when I first began writing my series is all the incredibly strong symbolism that has since begun to arise from the characters I've been subconsciously creating. Jake and I, for example, have slowly evolved into a satirical take on the accepted ideological symbolism inherent to the three major Abrahamic monotheistic faiths. In the cartoons I have written, the theological roles have been reversed where now the snake represents virtue and sainthood while the man has become a conduit for devilry and sin. How unintentionally trippy!

I do like the Yin/Yang relationship with these two characters, and the fact that they can be great friends regardless of opposite spectrum personalities.

Yeah, it's amazing how rich and deep my characters have unintentionally grown as I've fleshed them out down through the years...hard to believe I've poured nearly a decade of work into this series.
