Headcanon dump:

Wilford lived in the human world for years following the events of WKM (I headcanon that this was the early 30s) and saw Dark around, but wasn't too attached to him. In the 80s, Dark befriended Wilford and persuaded him to live in the void as an ego. At least, this is canon for my EGO-typical series.

I also headcanon that Dark rocked red hair through the 80s before changing it back to brown, and refuses to look back on it because it's cringey to him. Like, he had a punk phase that he doesn't want to admit to.
