In the books (and also the game lore for the funtime animatronics), the animatronics basically just eat the children but keep them sort of alive. Although while Baby just grabs them out the front of her stomach, the funtime freddy apparently eats people in a snake-like way :/ I think he did it to the main character at one point.
I've never read the books- just watched all the game theories
