This is just my opinion but I don't think it makes much sense that Emerson immediately knows their gender (or lack of it) when they don't know anything about themselves.
I think it would make more sense if Emerson would identify as either male or female and later in the comic decide that they're agender after they've had time to figure it out.
A lot of transgenders don't find out they're trans until they're teenagers once they find the internet.

Well, with the whole 'amnesia' thing, its not complete and utter eraser of themselves. They still retain some memories, and others are called back whenever they're triggered by something they see/hear. Whenever their mind drifts to a certain memory, they remember it almost as if it hadn't been lost. Hence why their personalities are intact: a lot of their memories are still accessible, and what isn't has left a subconscious mark on them. Most of the memories they can't remember at all are memories that they would have rather forgotten anyways.
Emerson spent a lot of time in their past thinking about their gender and debating it, and it was a major cause of anxiety for them. When Geonna misgendered them, the use of 'him' made them remember that they weren't a 'him', because of they can remember to some extent their discovery that they were agender, along with feeling pretty uncomfortable with the pronoun used for them.
I hope that makes sense?? i wish i could have elaborated more on this in the comic to avoid confusion :'0

finally, a character who actually points out that they're agender! a lot of the time, in the stories I read/watch, characters are automatically known to be agender, without question. and I'm just like...'okay, but how'd they know that this character was agender??' so this is very refreshing XD

aaa thank you!!! actually, emerson's hair is usually a bit darker but i lightened and desaturated the colours of the characters to fit the backgrounds better :0
