Loosely derived from the Whitestone-class mining ship, it incorporates substantial Union warship design influences. Despite its significantly enhanced armor and armament, it maintains a similar speed and maneuverability profile to its predecessor. Furthermore, it boasts a larger cargo bay and hosts more powerful reactors and inertial dampening systems.

The Sunstone-class demonstrates the capability to operate with minimal support, even in relatively hazardous regions.
