A quite large, simple, and relatively inexpensive modular pistol, designed around the 8.5x38mm polymer cased telescoped cartridge. The cartridge can carry significant amounts of payload and is fast enough to allow kinetic armor-piercing rounds to defeat light military body armor.

The M5 series features the rather unique COF push-button slide lock/release introduced with the M4 pistols.

The pistol was the winner of the UFS Basic Service Pistol trials and was adoped into widespread service by the UFS, thinning out the mess of different handguns that accumulated during and after the liberation from earth. It was planned to completely replace the M5 with PBH series of SMI produced particle burst handguns but this nerver really happened, as many units adoped other guns instead or decided to keep the BSP and invest in other, more important equipment. The M5 BSP is a modified M4 Combat model handgun and was designed with maximum adaptability in mind as it was expected to serve almost everywhere and with almost everyone.

The M5 BSP pictured here is setup in an offensive handgun configuration.

Because of the 8.5x38mm CT cartridge the grip is quite large for a combat pistol making it potentially uncomfortable to shoot for people with smaller hands, especially considering the power of the cartridge.
