General Information
The USS Ranger NCC-1689 was commissioned in 2238 as the lead ship of an awe‑inspiring new class of starship significantly larger than any previously seen.
As a precursor to the Constitution class the Ranger class was served as a test bed for the new technical innovations now available to the Federation, including phase lasers, transporters, subspace radio, advanced warp drives and featured a revolutionary new kind of tritanium in its hull. The Ranger class would refine these technologies, and create an awe‑inspiring new class of vessel.
During its early years in service, the Ranger-class was the top-of-the-line ship for the Starfleet, performing missions that included everything from first contact to top secret incursions into Klingon space. However, as it grew older, it was replaced the Constitution-class ships and settled into a role of sector patrol and boarder defense were there maneuverability and fire power made them highly desirable commands.
With profound improvements in science and sensor abilities as well as weapons, ships of this class were poised to expand the borders of the Federation as well our knowledge of the galaxy.
