I was inspired to finally make this into a wallpaper. It is of course the second to the last page of act 1 of Immortal Enemies. Love this page. It is really just about the best I have ever done to capturing a John Blanche style illustration. I have a strange love/not-love relationship with his work. i used to not like it so much. Now I can really see that it is what made 40k special. Basically, though, I wanted something wallpaper-worthy.Related content

What I mean is the rough, kind of crazy style of illustration John Blanche is most well known for. I didn't used to love it, but really... now, I have to say that it is pretty masterful at capturing the FEEL of 40k.

Hair, in an idealized fashion. Memory and particularly legend is often exagerated, at least that's the idea.

Once again you have captured the spirit and atmosphere of the 40k universe but have also introduced something new.

Blanche is an artist, everyone else working in GW art dept. in the 90's were just accomplished illustrators IMHO, he drew characters and stories, they just drew the models. Your style isn't like his, but the life and character you impart to your work is in his spirit! nice one

You know, I want to agree with you on every level of that. I think thats a very good observation, particularly about those in the employment of GW, and that is not to speak poorly of any of them. I generally fancy myself an illustrator, myself. I am certainly not John Blanche--in fact my natural persuasion is very, very far from what he does--I just mean to capture some of his spirit and character.
