Don't know what effect you used to add glow to the stars, but a fairly simple and quite effective method is to duplicate the star layer(s), and add some gaussian blur to the underlaying layer (the glow layer might need a decrease in opacity too). That way your stars are still crisp in the center, with a nice glow surrounding them.

Well thats actually the method i used, maybe i just need more practice. I also think i may have had to many star layers as i was trying to build up some depth and areas with brighter stars and groups.
