Description
So, because ~artemis5096 is so cool, I'm uploading the design for the Nobody Wa-Loli outfit. I was afraid of flooding your inboxes, but, alas, you will just have to deal. That's why I try to tag what it is in the title, just as a bit of fair warningAnywho, I have all of the fabric for this, and I'm ready to go. Major notes:
- No collar on the kimono, just more red piping or edging.
- Very short box sleeves, but still full length (3'
- Funky skirt that will either faux lace together, or actually lace together, with leather grommet tape and red satin cording.
- Again, can be worn with the corset, or with the more simple obi/sash.
- Shiny gem buttons as kamon again.
- Design embroidered on sleeve.
The drawings on the skirt are just kind of approximations of what the fabric looks like. It's way more detailed, but is in a vertical pattern. The obi stuff is shiny.
So. Again, an attempt at simple awesome. I hope it works!
And, sorry for the random character looking thing. I dunno what I was sketching, but it looked dumb as hell without a head and face, and that's what I just scribbled down, sorry
Now, to go build the embroidery pattern for the corset...
Oh! Feel free to draw characters in the outfit, if you'd like, just credit me and shoot me a comment or note when it's done so I can see them

have you ever thought of making a corset like obi?

you read my mind - I have sketches from a year ago, of various corsets that mimic obi or the kimono tops themselves
now, to find the time to make them (Hopefully, during my corsetry independent study, I will!)

I'll try, that's for sure - when would you need it done by, though? Because after this weekend, I'm back in school and going crazy (too many classes XP)

I rather like the idea of the corset on top of the yukata, while the drawstrings give it such a sexy look!
Haha, random thought, but the hair looks like Ryoko from Tenchi Muyo! xD

Oh man I know that feeling, I don't have the body for a lot of things because I'm very boy shaped O_o Hense the reason why when ever I cosplay I cosplay male characters O_O or wear big flowy clothes that can give the illusion of a girly figure.

taeliac In reply to GlassDrakaina [2008-01-17 01:03:01 +0000 UTC]
Hrm... well, that's the trick. I've been doing cosplay for... 7 years now? or so? And 90% of cosplay is taking the sketch and figuring out how to make it into reality... I guess it's just a lot of practice, and knowing what type of pattern you need to do something certain

I blame it squarely on you, and your beautiful creations. And being so nice, and encouraging to everyone

Janes-Wardrobe In reply to taeliac [2008-01-17 10:04:30 +0000 UTC]
I'm sorry I've cost you a fortune! The coutil will be worth it - once you've used it nothing else will quite do. It can be stiff and a bit tricky to make boning channels in very curved seams without puckering - but you'll get the hang of it. Unless you've got one of the softer coutils - in which case you won't have a clue what I'm talking about !
Are you going to create historical costume now you've see my attempts? Muahahahahaaaa!!!!! (Determined to bankrupt the competition...)

No, probably not. I mean, I know I'm going to have to do an Elizabethan corded corset, but that's about it. I'm definitely more of a fan of the "quick and dirty theatrical variety of corset" (as my instructor refers to them as) -- I'll leave the real one's to the pro's

Janes-Wardrobe In reply to taeliac [2008-01-17 21:22:13 +0000 UTC]
Elizabethan corded corset? I thought the corded corsets were Regency? I'm no expert - still learning but I wonder if you're confusing cording with the reeds that were regularly used prior to whalebone?
I'm going to do a corded Regency job next and then an Elizabethan but these two will probably have to wait until after the market I'm doing mid March. I have so much to do for that including a whole new Victorian outfit for me - which will need a new corset as I've shrunk too much to wear my old Victorian corset.
Still I've madeup two medieval shirts, a pourpoint (waistcoat type thingy for tying hose to - 15th C) and a pair of 18th C pockets today so I'm feeling pretty good!
And stop it with the I'm getting all big headed

taeliac In reply to Janes-Wardrobe [2008-01-18 04:04:05 +0000 UTC]
Maybe. I'm not sure, myself. Most of what i know is "Civil War" era (1860's), so I am probably wrong Thats why I need the class on it XP And, my costume history class was so boring I could barely stay awake XP
I so can't wait to see that outfit - so pretty! I'm still floored by people who can do historically accurate (or even close!) outfits, it jsut blows me away. And, that is a ton of work!! All I got done was draping a skirt for my costume this year, that was supposed to be finished by the end of my winter break -____-;
You deserve to be all big-headed! You're amazing, I love all of your work!~ It's so different from what I normally do (and, quite frankly, see) that I just love it to death!

Janes-Wardrobe In reply to taeliac [2008-01-18 16:11:40 +0000 UTC]
Maybe you should've paid some attention in the history - Elizabethan is way earlier than the 1860's - that's Victorian!
Your lecturer must've been really dull - fashion history is exciting - well it is if the person delivering the history is actually interested in it!

taeliac In reply to Janes-Wardrobe [2008-01-18 21:38:10 +0000 UTC]
No, I know that, but I really wanted to try to make "Renaissance Fair" stays -- I know everything I've done so far has been Victorian in one way or another (I completely fear the S-curve one's, though... it just hurts me in sympathy for the people who had to wear them!)
It was a horribly dull class. We read the book, kinda. And then went through the book in class, kinda. And then watched a bland power point where all the instructor did was read off of the slides, which was also a reitteration of the book, kinda. The most interesting time is when we talked about the "Civil War" era, where my friend brought in a ton of her reproductions (~MissMaggie1860 )
I've found,b ecause of her, I'm definitely more interested in history than I thought I'd be, but not enough to jump out of cosplay XP I like the random that cosplay really is... and who doesn't like trying to figure out how to make giant wings that look like a bow but still stay up on their own

Janes-Wardrobe In reply to taeliac [2008-01-18 23:06:42 +0000 UTC]
Ah Renaissance Fairs - I still haven't worked them out - it seems kinda medievalish influenced but pretty much anything goes - I may have got that completely wrong, but when you look at the lengths some of the European re-enactment group go to to be really authentic it does look like fancy dress!
I've got a replacement copy of 'Corsets and Crinolines' by Norah Waugh today and I've been reading up n stays and corsets. The 'S' curve corset didn't seem to last long at all - and was very probably only worn by the very fashionable. From what I can gather all underwear forms seem to overlap from one fashion period to another - depending on the age of the wearer and the height of fashion they wanted. All very fascinating. I haven't attempted an 'S' shaped corset yet - I'm not 100% sure I'll ever get around to that.
Your friend ~MissMaggie1860 is definately what I meant by making history exciting.
I love the idea of cosplay but it just doesn't seem to be as big in Europe as it is in the USA. Maybe it's partly to do with history - modern American history is pretty recent whereas Europeans can trace their history back centuries. Who knows...
