Description Well, I finally quickly put this down on paper, of what I'm *hoping* my wedding dress is going to turn out like. I did a fitting today, with the wonderful ~MissMaggie1860 , and I'm way more optimistic than I thought I would be!

Color change from the original design, because I cannot, for the life of me, find lavender colored silk taffeta! It's all rose, or gray, and while I wouldn't have minded gray, I've always been a blue person, so when I saw a dark-ish blue taffetta, I had to order it and decided to go with that.

I've also come to the conclusion that I'm not a fru-fru trim type person; while I love ruffles, they have their place, and this type of dress seems to benefit from not having any on it.

Plus, we decided to take it to a little twist - most of the jewelry and other accents are going to be Steampunk inspired I've already boughten a lot of it, from a ton of artists - I'm a little in shock over spending $350 on jewelry via Etsy, but I think it will all be so worth it!

So, onto the details, if anyone really wants to know.

Based off of a dress in the Historic Collection at UW-Milwaukee, c.1880

Pattern draped wholly by myself, over a 1900 flat front corset (which gives me a better shape for the cut of this dress, even if it isn't accurate)

Natural form bustle means that the poof is lower on the back, not on the butt, usually done with ties. This dress, however, was a weirdo from others, and all the poofs are done with pleats, and some of them in interesting knot-type ways (which gave me nightmares to translate into paper)

6 pattern pieces total for the dress (!), two of which are sleeves, and the other two are the left front and the right front XP

Under skirt will be something more like a 1910 walking skirt, just so it's a little more full in the back, without adding too much fullness to the shape in the front.

Small train (which, when I upload the pictures, you'll see isn't in the mock-up) which I'll add in later by creating more pleats.

Small riding hat ish thing going on, that I have still to make. Lots of feathers, gems, beads, and a very, very cool hat pin commissioned from ~Heterodyning (with a matching one for Chris)

Trim will be satin ribbon, more than likely, although I'm not positive until I figure out exactly what color the front will be faced in. Trims will be antique gold in color, with accents of bronze, copper, and silver, because those are all the colors going into our Steampunk accessories.

Made out of dark blue silk taffeta (I'm ordering 20 yards, in case I want to put pleats on the under skirt), and flat lined in ... something. Not sure what yet

All in all, I'm very excited - it's way far from traditional, which makes me happy, but still really pretty! I'll be uploading pictures from the fitting I did today shortly, and I'll try to remember to link back!

And, please forgive the rather crappy sketch - I was being very lazy...

Edit
So, I just realized... I didn't draw it with the dropped shoulders in the back, the dress is period like that, and I also drew the swag backwards.... yeah. I win.

Picture of the mock up can be seen here

You know, that is a huge relief to hear - I wasn't sure the colors would work, but went ahead and bought a ton of jewelry already, so I was kind of hoping

I really would like to have the dress done ASAP, but I have almost 2 months to work on it, and only one other commission to make, and one to finish, in the next few weeks, so definitely have the time *thank goodness*

Blue is offten paired with silver, but it looks just as nice with gold/copper. Also, it just seems to fit the whoel feel your going for. I can't wait to see what the hat turns out to look like. Are you going to add a little vintage veil for detail or no?

Originally, I had very much wanted a blue and silver/white dress, if were were going to get married in the dead of winter (original plan), but I'm happy to hear that! I never really venture into the gold/copper tones; the Yuuko outfit was actually one of the first times I had made anything personally for myself with golds in it!

Probably not, but I'm actually not sure! It's more or less going to be swinging it with hat details as I build everything Although, that might be cute, now that I think about it... damn you for giving me too many ideas

My dream job was to be a wedding planner for "alternative" weddings (aka, not traditional like yours). I have spent a good chunk of my free time checking out websites, links, places, costs ect. lame I know, but it's one of my odd hobbies

A veil might not be bad, but that could make it a bit more gothy then steampunky (I have no idea what your jewelry looks like). It could go either way. I think the swinging it idea is a good one.

I think I might go for silver and blue when I get married, but that's because I'm blue crazy. Though I don't think Jon would ever let us get married in the dead of winter. I love it...he hates it.

Sketch? Crappy?! Certainly not! I'm certainly looking forward to the pictures of this and I think it's awesome that you're going for a more unique wedding dress. Splendid work! +1 to Favorites

Hehe, see, I always think my sketches are crappy - it's just an issue of mine XP

Thank you so much I really love having something rather different, I just hope no one is bothered that it is so different

This is the kind of "Different" that is great.
