Gonna throw out my honest reaction to this piece, after checking the stats on it: "...Wow, this is heinously under-appreciated."
Do you have access to a scanner at home or at school? If this were scanned and cropped properly (personally, I use MS Paint for all of my image-editing needs, but I hear tell of a mythical creature called Photoshop that I one day hope to see in the wild AKA I'm too poor to buy a software license >.< ... well, I think you'd see a pretty significant uptick in activity. Cuz between the lineart and the shading, this is truly outstanding work. I love the greys, especially... did you use a pencil for the shading? Also, A+ on the lineart and perspective, like Melate said.
Sorry if I'm a bit forward with this, but I promise I at least mean well I just... this is a fantastic piece, I'm surprised it hasn't seen a greater response ^^

Oh thanks again man.. I think we do have a scanner somewhere, I'm not sure. And they are probably not very expensive if I did have to buy one. I used to just take pictures of my art with my laptop webcam, which is pretty bad quality, and now I take pictures with my phone camera. I could start scanning them and cropping them properly, but I don't think my art is good enough where I would get tons of attention to justify doing that (I've always been humble when it comes to my art).
As far as this drawing goes, I mostly used an HB pencil for the shading, and a black coloured pencil for a few parts. Then just a black marker for his eyepatch and coat collar. But I really really appreciate your comments, and feel free to critique any of my other drawings. I'm always happy to get feedback from awesome artists like yourself.
I'll see if I can find a scanner and try to crop my pictures better. See ya around :3

Honestly, scanning and cropping should make a noticeable difference. That and submitting to a few dozen groups. If there's two things I've learned from my 7 months on here, it's that 1) you can't expect people to find you, you gotta put your art out there (in the appropriate places) and find them.... and 2), once your art finds people, aesthetics counts for almost as much as subject matter (at least with fanart). I just think there's a ton of unrealized potential, given where you are, skill-level-wise. You just gotta market yourself a bit :3
But going back to this piece in particular, yeah, this is a real winner. And it's an interesting effect you've created with the inked lineart combined with pencil shading... I typically use the Neutral Gray Copics to do my gray tones, but the pencil really looks nice here ^^ Keep up the excellent work, man, and I think you'll be off and running!!

Hmm very good advice. I'm in several anime and manga groups that I submit my drawings to, but I never really cared much about getting watchers and attention. I always just drew things as a hobby and just for fun but now I'm thinking of putting more time into it and seeing where I can go with it. I would love to get my skill up to a level where people would actually buy my art, that's becoming a goal for me as I spend more time drawing.
One of my goals for this year is to keep improving as an artist and to try new media and new things and see how it affects my drawings. I used to be purely an HB pencil artist but now I'm trying to branch out and do new things.
And for the record, I think your art is severely under appreciated as well. Your drawings are all very well done and I was surprised to see that you only had around 300 watchers. You deserve a lot more attention for sure. But I guess we both only joined DA several months ago, so let's hope 2015 brings lots of new watchers for us both. I look forward to seeing your future art and thanks again for the kind words and advice, feel free to stop by my page whenever you wanna chat. Cheers!

Likewise to all of that!!! You've given me a nice helping of credit there, I'm honored to have your respect as an artist ^^ I think you definitely have huge potential, and you might just find that, if you start paying attention to how your art is received, you'll find motivation to improve and push the limits of your artistic abilities. At least, that's kinda how it went for me. Seeing some of the incredible fanart on here, and being able to interact with the people responsible for creating it, has also been a huge motivator for me. Whatever the reason, as long as you're enjoying yourself, that's the most important thing. Same to you!! Stop by any time. And if you ever have questions or need advice, I'm here for ya Here's to an awesome 2015 for both of us!! Talk to you soon, my friend ^-^
