Genfic: Any fanfiction with a plot that does not revolve around romance.Porn: At least 95% of fanfics labeled "romance" are actually this.
The problem: There is too much porn in fanfiction and not enough genfic.
The solution: Wear this stamp proudly! Then, get out there and write more genfic.

As much as I would love seeing a slight increase in genfic in my sadly pornfic obsessed fandoms... I doubt it'll happen anytime soon. XD

Yeah, considering that this happens to be the main focus of the fanfics I find, I agree. I just want to see my favorite character be murdered in a horrific fashion! Stop focusing on pointless "Development" on characters that were already developed in canon! And also, Fan characters paired with Canon characters, it's fine until it overtakes the story.

DA is now featuring fanfics more regularly now (instead of like once a decade lol) so hopefully more people will be encouraged/isnpired to write less pawns and awesomes!

I think that some series contain enough romance that their genfics might be a bit romantic, too.
Nonetheless, I'm tired of the number of things I find labeled genfic that focus heavily on romance and sometimes crack pairings, and very little on everything else! Not that there's anything wrong with it, but people, stop mislabeling your fics! What you're writing is nothing like canon. *head desk*

A plot can not revolve around romance and STILL involve sex and the like. I wish people would get this through their head when it comes to "romance" stories. It doesn't have to take up the whole plot, it can just be there.

I'm fine with any type of fanfiction or fanart, as long as it is something that interests me. To be honest, it is up to the writers to write what they want to write. People don't like it they can stop complaining and look away and write their own fanfiction.
I've written both romance and non-romance, but not really any porn. If I don't like what I'm reading, I just won't read the rest.
Seriously, the internet and the world be a lot better if people stopped worrying about and being picky about what OTHER people are doing.

Erotica and romance are VERY different. I know there are dozens of fanfictions out there that don't have erotica as the main focus. Now, on that note, even if a fanficiton romance contains erotic behavior, the writer(i'm sure) is just trying to explore the possibilities of the pair they choose. So if, as you say, 95% of fanfictions are erotica, I bet half of that only contains erotica and you are lumping it together with those that have intercorse as the main focus.

Though I totally agree, I'm strugling to think of any non-romance related fanfiction I would want to read. Now, porn (I feel it should be called EROTICA in this case, as porn is usual visual and ment to arouse and stimulate, pre-ejaculation and erotica is usually written and has more of a story, more feelings, and a deeper meaning) and romance are two COMPLETELY different things. Though I love to read both of them, I hate to see them lumped together.

I'm proud of saying that I'm not in the percentage that writes porn. I'm not sure if any of my stories have the genre of romance, but I DO write romance into them. But, in my stories, I don't describe them doing anything beyond a kiss or two here and there. Truth be told, if I read or write anything more graphic, I practically gag. The romance I write about is actually ROMANCE and not LUST. And I hate when people think writing porn can be labeled as romance. Porn is lust. Romance is deep and pure and porn is tainting it.

Seriously. Call me weird, but I love fanfictions about stuff like family and fatherly/brotherly and friendship. And when the characters are, well, in character. ):
On Fanfiction.net, there should be a setting where you can choose what genre you DON'T want to read. But this would partially destroy the supreme satisfaction of searching for forever through romance fics and finding a diamond in the rough.

So very, very true! Anyone can put two characters together of whatever fanbase they like and let them in on some "romance". Genfic is so much more creative!

I've personally written romance, genfic, and PWP in my time.
I'm actually alternating between two ongoing fics at present, and I find it amusing that the 'genfic' (an AU with a fantasy setting) gets less attention than the fic with the 'Axel/Roxas' tag in the summary. Ah, fandom.
