Description
Representing a new pinnacle for ground-based Renarian combat vehicles, the T-9C Renegade PFV brings countless advances to the field of armoured combat, both inside and out. From things as simple as the overall profile, to the output of its drive reactor, the Renegade is a complete upgrade from its predecessors, and a head above its contemporaries.
In comparison to the T-8 Cavalier series of tanks, the Renegade's immediate 'parent' vehicle, the primary goals in the design process were to reduce the vehicle's profile, while at the same time increasing the interior space. The first and most pressing issue was the wheel base; by reducing the height of the road wheels, the Renegade lost a small amount of ground clearance, but (along with the removal of the Anti-Personnel Plasma Cannon on top of the turret) reduced the vehicle's height by over 1.5 meters. Meanwhile, thanks to a system of internal bracing and space optimization, the cabin space was expanded enough to both increase the crew compliment, and give the crew more space to work in.
Other clear improvements to the exterior include the addition of side skirts to both protect the track and wheels, and the sides of the hull, from incoming fire. As an extra layer of protection, the skirts each hold a length of spare track for in-field repairs, or simply for catching shots on the sides. Another improvement is the smoothness of the hull and turret, a reduction from the overly busy designs of prior tanks.
Some technological improvements have been made too, allowing for the Renegade to be equipped with a microfusion reactor instead of a fossil fuel engine. This in turn offers an enormous increase in power production, which is why the main cannon, though it looks the same, has been changed from a solid projectile launcher, to a high-precision variant plasma shell cannon. This cannon is integrated into the tank's design, in that the energy capacitors and the plasma polarization coils take up nearly all the space inside the turret, forcing the crew compartment to be limited to the hull. There are also no windows in the Renegade, making the crew reliant on an array of sensors and cameras around the turret and hull. To offset the limitations of camera navigation and the danger of the plasma battery in the turret, the side and frontal armour plates are particularly thick and resillient.

----------
Much like its in-universe description, this model was built as a replacement for the Cavalier, as an effort to fix all the things I didn't like about that one. I think it largely succeeded too, in all aspects that I hoped it would. There's only one thing left I'm not pleased with, and that's the inside rows of the road wheels. I'd like to have double wheels on the front and back to hold the track in place, but there's no way to do that with the coathanger pieces the wheels are mounted on. But, it only comes off a little bit, sometimes. And it's a lot better than the previous design too. I'm quite pleased with the more refined and simplified look this version has, both inside and out, instead of the cluttered look of the previous. This thing is one of my favorite models now, I love that it's actually properly tank-sized, to a minifigure, and has a full crew inside even without a hollow turret. (a design limitation that I've fixed with lore!)
The primary inspirations for its look are the Panther and Centurion tanks, with aspects of both worked into the chassis. The turret is based on neither though, and wasn't really inspired by anything besides making a sleek shape with the parts I had. (And strong angled armour!) In general though, my design objective was to get rid of features from the Cavalier that look like Lego bits tacked on to have pieces there, and add features that are just things a tank ought to have.
