Description
So, I just wanted to put some canines that are and aren't endangered. In order-
Red Fox- Vulpes vulpes- Least Concern (The one I'm least proud of ;A
Grey Wolf or the Commen Wolf- Canis lupus- Least Concern (But don't tell wolfaboos)
African Wild Dog also known as African hunting dog, Cape hunting dog, painted dog, painted wolf, painted hunting dog, spotted dog, or ornate wolf- Lycaon pictus Endangered
Red Wolf- Canis lupus rufus (A Wolf-Coyote Hybrid)- Critically Endangered
Ethiopian wolf also known as the Abyssinian wolf, Abyssinian fox, red jackal, Simien fox, or Simien jackal- (Canis simensis)- Endangered
Indian Wold Dog or Dhole- Cuon alpinus (Differs slightly from canines, has less teeth, ect.)- Endangered
^^This one came out ugly too :c^^
These are animals we should really care about. :I
The signs say,
"I'm endangered."
"I am too!!1!!"
"No, I am."
"I am."
"I am."
"We are."

umm what??
im not even saying grey wolves are endangered in this picture (because theyre not anymore, now theyre listed as least concern). im saying lesser known canide species are endangered and they deserve more attention than grey wolves or red foxes (although their species deserves to be perserved as well, but right now other animal species deserve more protection).

Whether or not the red wolf is a wolf-coyote hybrid is debateable. That "fact" was mostly spread by those wanting to pull the red wolf off of the endangered species list. However, given we have coy-wolves in many areas of the US, and they look quite different from actual red wolves, I suspect it is probably false.
On a side note, dholes are my favorite underrated canid. <3 Learned about them from a wildlife magazine we got when I was a kid.

You shoulda put a Kalak on there since it's in between Least concern and endangered. (Maned Wolf, Chrysocyon brachyurus. Canid, not really a wolf.)
But anyways I found this amuzing. People are always blabbing about "how spectacular wolves are" and yeah sure they are but there are so many other canids out there that are threatened and endangered that are beautiful too. It is very much muze for meh.

I've never heard about a Kalak and can't find a page on it, can you link me one? I almost put a Mane Wolf, but they aren't as endangered as I thought they were before searching them. I find it interesting, because they aren't related to really fox or wolf, but the only reason they have the name "Maned Wolf" is because the closest thing they are to is an extinct species of wolf that lived on the tip of South America.
Totally! I do love wolves, but sure not as much as other animals. Wolves are cannibalistic and are always fighting with the other pack mates. Whilst the African Wild Dog, will care for the sick and injured, plus also letting their young eat first. The wolfaboos need to stop shoving these fake facts into the young minds that don't know much about wolves. :I Yes, very amusing for me too. XD

Kalak is simply the native Toba word for what we call the "maned wolf". The Toba people were intelligent enough to know that the animal is not a wolf or a fox. [link]
And yeah I suggested it because they are not quite endangered but is "near threatened" because of habitat concerns and farmers/citizens shooting/killing them. Ergo it would be in between the gray wolf (least concern) and the red wolf (endangered) in the line up?
and EXACTLY

Really? I never heard them referred as a kalak. I like that. It suits it more since it really isn't a wolf.

I believe it's not an "official" name, more of a name given to it by locals
I think it suits them nicely though too haha

Yeah, Dholes are canids, but not only has a few things different then a canine, like the shape of it's teeth.

yeah. a family member recenty suggested "oh make a book about animals for young children". how would you teach a 6 year old "even though this dhol looks like a dog, it is not a dog or wolf, coyote or jackal" and "why"
would "it's teeth are not the same." enough?

The dhole or Indian Wild Dog (Cuon alpinus) is a species of canid native to South and Southeast Asia. It is the only extant member of the genus Cuon, which differs from Canis by the reduced number of molars and greater number of teats.
^^That's what it says on the Wikpedia page^^
I recommend this website- [link]

i don't think i'd really go with the book idea suggested. but it is intersting to see how others would. do you think little kids would figure out extant is the oppiste of extinct? or what a genus is?
like, kindergarden age kids?

Well, the idea sounds good. Why not make a page for a bunch of endangered canids? Like the critically endangered Arabian Wolf on one page and a Dhole on another, then some other canines? I'd avoid things like a Maned Wolf, which is just threatened.
