Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaa-maaaaa-zonnnnnnnn!This creature is Kamen Rider Amazon. He's quite a break form the previous (and really any) other early Showa design. Most every other rider in Showa is based on some insect. Amazon here isn't. Nor does he get his powers in the same way. Amazon's design seems to be based on a piranha (makes sense with the name) and/or a lizard. I think piranha is closer because Amazon has a big ol' dorsal fin on his back.
But anyway, back to my original point. He's super different form others. His belt isn't his transformation device, he just transforms himself. My understanding is that he rips, tears apart, bites, etc. his opponents just as/if not more than punch and kick them. He's a violent dude. He's got claws, sharp protrusions on his boots and gloves, teeth, the whole nine yards for a violent fighter.
At first, I was really not looking forward to making him, especially the river/current lines all over his suit. Now that I have, he may be my favorite Showa design so far. It's just so cool and different.

He was kinda violent, wasn't he? And yet beneath that brutal, wild, merciless hunter, and something Shinichiro Shirakura completely missed when thinking up Amazons, is a Friend to All Living Things who only fought someone if they were performing evil acts, and even had a memetic friendship gesture.
Outsiders to the series may know him as "the gory one", but those in the know understand based on the frequency of these words: "Amazon... "[insert person here]"... tomodachi."

I'm gonna be honest. I never liked this guy. Not because of his design, the design is great. But for whatever reason, whenever I look at his belt, I see Dr. Eggman/Robotnic from the Sonic series, and I can't get that image out of my head.

you know, a lot of riders are sort of insects in some way, not just the showa. Kuuga, Agito, Blade, and the riders of Kabuto were all bugs. some riders have antanea like insects or have eyes like bugs.

Amazon is over-rated, give me Stronger over Amazon any day. Him and the Electro human Tackle. *She should have been a rider but I understand why she wasn't, being the 70's and all. If Stronger ever got the reboot treatment I'd hope they'd make Tackle a full blown rider*
