This is a collaboration between Me and ArtieCanvas on FA.

I do the story writing and Artie does the picture to go along with it. We work together to come up with the concepts and I write them out for him and we work together to make sure we are both happy and that you are all happy. Sonic and the Amulet of Aging

Part 1: Discovery

It was a warm, peaceful summer day in the rainforests of the continent of Soumerca, or it would have been if not but two days ago, a large earthquake hadn’t hit the area. Many trees were down and the ground was cracked in many areas as well. It was damaging, but not anywhere as devastating as it could have been. However, the earthquake caused something strange to appear on the radars of some of the planets inhabitants. And at this moment, a plane was just starting to appear on the horizon as two people from the city of New Mobotropolis were coming to investigate this new energy signature. There was no telling what it was, but anything new was always worth exploring and getting to before anything bad could get to it first, if it wasn’t already something bad.

After circling for a few minutes, the red plane soon comes down and lands in a small clearing that could be found in the dense rainforest. When it lands, out of the plane jumps two teenage Mobians, the first was a seventeen year old blue hedgehog named Sonic the Hedgehog, and the other was an eleven year old yellow fox named Tails Prower. The two adventurers were here for a reason and they intended to find what it was that they were looking for. Tails stood there next to his plane holding a small mini-computer that looked to be used for tracking the energy signal that was coming from the jungle. He looked ready and prepared to follow it the best he could towards their objective, but Sonic was instead dressed with a leather hat and leather gloves with a sparkle in his eye for adventure.

Tails couldn’t help but look over at Sonic and what he was wearing and roll his eyes a bit at it. “Really Sonic? Do you have to wear that stuff every time we have to come explore the Soumercan rainforest?” asks Tails sighing a bit as he says this and the response he gets in return.

“Hehe, why not wear this? We are going to be adventuring in the harsh rainforest with no telling what we will encounter. It is best I be prepared and look the part.” says the blue hedgehog grinning happily as he stares off in the direction they were about to depart towards.

Tails simply sighs a bit and shakes his head as he starts to walk in the direction of where the energy signature was being shown on his computer.

“Then let’s at least get going then Sonic. The signal is coming from this direction. It should take us only a bit to get there.” says the fox as he looks down at his computer to make sure he was right.

“Then let’s get there even faster than that!” says Sonic as he suddenly grabs the fox by the arm and speeds off into the rainforest with the fox immediately yelling out to Sonic in surprise at being grabbed and taken off with little warning that they were about to do so.

Tails didn’t even get to say anything before Sonic had grabbed him and sped off into the rainforest in the direction he had just told the hedgehog they needed to be heading in. All he could do was try and direct Sonic as they zipped past trees at lightning speed. Tails was just glad he was used to moving at this speed after all these years as he was able to direct Sonic the best he could while also holding onto his computer with his free hand.

The fox was happy though when he finally was able to yell out to Sonic once they reached pretty close to where the energy signature was coming from. “STOP SONIC!” yells Tails close to the hedgehog’s ear which does make him come to a pretty sudden stop.

“Around here?” asks Sonic after he had come to a stop in a thick area of the rainforest.

It was very thick in this area, so thick that you couldn’t even see the sky. This made this area pretty dark, even though it was the middle of the day. It was no wonder no one would think to come looking out here for something that would possibly be of use or worth exploring to find. Sonic does look back to Tails and sees him shaking his fur a little bit after coming to a stop so suddenly before looking at his computer once again. Once the fox was comfortable again, he does start to track again.

“It should be around here somewhere Sonic.” says Tails as he looks at the energy signature notification on his computer and then looks around him only to see lots and lots of trees.

“Well I don’t see anything. You sure that thing is working right and there really is something out here buddy?” asks Sonic as he pokes at Tails’ hand computer a few times just to see if it was working.

“Of course it is working right! According to this, the energy signature is very strong around here, so it must be at least two or three hundred feet in any direction from where we are. It can’t be fake at all for the signature to be this strong now that we are here.” says Tails defending himself and his computers findings.

“It could always be just some sort of trap to lure us out into the middle of nowhere to ambush us you know as well Tails. Eggman could have easily thrown some sort of trinket out here to confuse us.” says Sonic stating what he was thinking at the moment while looking around cautiously after saying it.

“I doubt it Sonic. This doesn’t look like any energy signature that Eggman ever uses. His machines may all be different from one another, but many of them use the same energy wavelengths to help even him identify them from far away. This isn’t something I’ve ever seen before. Even Nicole couldn’t recognize this when she tried to identify this energy. We need to find it before anyone else does.” says Tails once again trying to prove to Sonic that this isn’t a trap and it is something that they should find immediately before it does become a trap of some kind.

“Fine fine, I’ll look around some more, you do the same.” says Sonic as he suddenly starts to speed around looking for anything out of the ordinary that would look to be something that would be letting off an energy signature. He had no idea what he was looking for, but he would keep a close out.

Tails didn’t mind if Sonic looked around in his quick way as it might pay off and they could find this item more quickly so that they could get back home. They were already going to more than likely get back after dark, so the quick this took, the earlier they could get back home.

The two adventurers looked around for over a half hour with no results of searching the immediately area. Tails had been walking in circles a few times in certain areas as if he was trying to narrow down his searching, which was a little difficult in this area as the rainforest wasn’t letting much light into the area. His flashlight was helping some, but there were just so many trees in this area, that it was hard to find anything.

Sonic wasn’t fairing much better with speedy searches as he wasn’t spotting anything either. He would occasionally wander too far away from Tails’ search area only to have to call Sonic back to where he says the energy signature was coming from again. Sonic wasn’t exactly thrilled with this either as he wasn’t seeing anything, even after they both were going over the same area several times. Sonic wasn’t known for his patience, so after even more searching, he eventually couldn’t hold himself back anymore and speaks up to his buddy.

“Alright this is getting ridiculous. I know you and Nicole may think something is out here, but Tails I’m not seeing anything. We have both gone over this area several times and there is nothing here!” says Sonic stopping his foot out of frustration and impatience.

Before Tails could even respond to this, when Sonic’s foot hit the ground, the ground immediately collapsed around him and allows him to fall down into a hole that suddenly appeared in the ground. Tails immediately goes wide eyed and runs over towards the hole and shines his light down into it when both saw Sonic fall and the crash of when things were hitting the bottom inside.

“Sonic! Are you okay!” yells out the fox as he lies on his belly at the edge of the sudden new hole in the ground.

When the light is shined into the hole, instead of the small hole in the ground he was expecting, the area below the fox was actually very hollow and on top of that, made of stone and looked to be made and not natural at all. There was a Mobian made structure below them all this time. Inside the hole, there sat Sonic on the floor of the underground structure with dirt around him and covered in some of it as well trying to shake it off of himself.

“Yeah, I’m alright Tails. Just a little dirty, but that doesn’t explain what just happened.” says Sonic very confused as he looks around him only to see what looks to be some sort of stone building, though it was very dark to make out what all it was as well.

“You fell into a hole when you stomped your foot. Hold on, I’m coming down!” yells Tails as he jumps into the hole and hovers himself down to the floor next to Sonic using his tails to slow the fall down and make it safe for him to come inside as well.

Sonic coughed a little bit as he stands up and shakes dirt off of himself and then starts to pat at his hat to get the dirt off of it as well. “Well I wasn’t expecting that.” he says as he starts to take the flashlight that Tails was offering him now.

Tails had a secondary flashlight to use after he gave his own to Sonic to use, which he immediately starts to shine around to see where they were now. “Me either, but it does explain why we weren’t finding anything. I was looking for a structure or some kind of opening. I wasn’t expecting what we were looking for to be below us. That earthquake must have made some cracks in the ground or made it narrow enough for the energy signal to be let out from down here. These thick rock walls would easily block an energy signal.” says Tails as he shines it around the large room they had fallen into.

“Umm, yeah, I guess. But now that it seems we have found something, is this the right place now?” asks Sonic curiously as he shines his light around seeing all sorts of strange writing on the walls around them.

Tails looks at his computer which was showing a much stronger energy signal than it was before, which does make him smile. “It would seem like it Sonic. It says the signal is just a bit in front of us. There should be something around here.” says Tails as he starts to shine the flashlight in the direction he was indicating.

When Tails shines his light in this direction, there was what looked to be a few stairs and then a door to another room. Both boys look at each other and immediately start to walk in the direction of the stairs and doorway as whatever they had been looking for, was most likely on the other side of the door. They made their way quietly up the stairs and to the doorway where Sonic immediately makes his way into the new room to look around as Tails follows him inside right behind him.

When both boys are inside the room, what they saw wasn’t what they were expecting. Sonic and Tails were now standing in small room, where in the middle of it was a tall pedestal and sitting on the middle of the pedestal was a gold colored necklace hanging on a small rack. The necklace was shining from a small bit of light that was in the room. There was also some strange writing both on the front and back of the necklace as well as lots of writing all around the room. Both boys immediately look confused when they see both the necklace and all the writing on the tablets on the walls. Whatever this was, this was obviously very important and what they had likely been looking for since they got here.

“Well this is not what I was expecting.” says Sonic as he immediately walks over towards the artifact in the middle of the room to examine it closer.

“Weird. I was expecting some kind of machine or something else down here. Instead, it looks like some sort of amulet. It is definitely what we are looking for though. My readings are maximized at the moment, so the energy readings are coming from It.” says Tails looking at his computer again and then back up at the amulet Sonic was inspecting.

“This thing? You made it sound like it was going to be something dangerous that we had to worry about.” says Sonic now looking unimpressed with their find. He was expecting something much more dangerous or exciting like when they were here last time awhile back ago when they were after the Ring of Acorns. This amulet, while a pain to find and adventurous a bit, wasn’t what he was expecting.

“Well we don’t know what it is Sonic. For all we know, this amulet could be a lot more dangerous than we expect. They did have it in this building in a place of importance. This sort of looks like some sort of ritual was usually taking place here and this must be the center piece of it. That big room, leading to a small room where an artifact is being kept away from the main room, to where it is likely brought into when the ritual is taking place. That is at least my initial thoughts on this. Who knows, it could just be some ancient Mobian’s jewelry for all we know.” says Tails as he starts telling Sonic his thoughts on what he thinks this artifact could be.

Sonic though doesn’t look too impressed by this and was sort of dazing off from Tails’ explanations as well. “Yeah Yeah, so should we just grab this and go if this is what you were wanting Tails?” asks Sonic looking sort of impatient now as he just wanted to grab the amulet and get out of here now that it was found.

“Whoa Whoa Sonic, we need to document this and our surroundings as well just in case we need it for later. We are going to want to study this amulet, but we also need to get some pictures of the wall writings as well. I’ve never seen this kind of writing before, and if we can translate it back at the city, we might be able to figure out what this thing actually is.” says Tails as he starts to hold his computer up towards some of the wall writings to have it start taking pictures and videos of the writings on the wall around them.

Sonic simply sighs and grabs the amulet off of the pedestal and looks at it more closely now. “Looks like a simple neckless to me.” says Sonic not sounding too impressed. He had also looked ready to run the moment he picked up the amulet, but when he did, just as he expected from how this place looked, nothing happened at all. The place was so run down, that if something had been here to attack them, it was long since rotted away.

“Sonic! Don’t just grab it like that. We need to treat it with respect. Here, put it in this.” says Tails as he reaches behind himself and digs out from the small backpack that he had been carrying around, a small plastic container that he had brought just in case they did find something out here that could be taken back with them.

“Yeah yeah, let’s just get going Tails. This isn’t the high flying action adventure I was thinking it was going to be. I would rather get home to my mom’s chilidogs before it is too late to eat them.” says Sonic as he hands the amulet to Tails.

“Wouldn’t you eat them anyway, even if it was late at night?” asks Tails as he takes the amulet from Sonic before putting it in the container so that he could secure it inside his backpack.

“True. But they taste better when they are fresher.” says Sonic chuckling before heading to the door to see if he could find a way out of here, even if he has to run and jump back out the hole in the ceiling that he had made to get in here.

Tails simply rolls his eyes again before turning to finish getting the pictures and video of the wall writings that he was getting before. He didn’t want to leave without getting up close pictures of video of all of them, because there was no telling what they could be. This place was pretty run down as well, so there was no telling how much longer they would even be here and his pictures might be the only way the stuff would survive into the future.

Tails spent another five minutes taking pictures of the walls inside the room before he headed out and up the hole in the ceiling where he finds Sonic sitting on the ground relaxing and looking bored that he had had to wait for Tails to finish up what he was doing. Tails was pretty used to this at this point though, so it wasn’t anything unusual. Sonic just had to wait until he was finished.

“Alright I’m done Sonic, We can head home now.” says Tails just to let Sonic know that he was ready to go. Tails would have liked to have stayed longer to look around some more, but with Sonic here with him, he knew he couldn’t waste too much time or he would never heard the end of it from Sonic as he would likely start to whine about having to stick around in one spot for so long.

“Good. Let’s get back to the plane so we can get back home.” says Sonic as he flips up to his feet and turns to start making his way back to where Tails had landed the Tornado.

“Alright Sonic, we likely are going to get back a little late though.” says Tails knowing already that they were going to get back to the city in the middle of the night. It was already starting to get dark around here, which added onto the fact that they were in a dense area of the forest, it was going to get super dark soon if they didn’t get back to the Tornado and take off soon. Tails wouldn’t be able to fly if it got much darker in this area.

“As long as we get back.” says Sonic before grabbing onto Tails and taking off back towards the plane at full speed. He didn’t want to waste any more time. He wanted to go home and get his dinner, since he didn’t get the super exciting adventure he was expecting. A good meal would make his day or night better though.

Thanks to Sonic’s running, both he and Tails got back to the Tornado’s landing spot before the sun was completely down and Tails was easily able to make the plane take back off into the Mobius sky. Tails does know that by them taking the amulet with them that they would be letting off an energy signature that would be easily trackable as they were making their way back to New Mobotropolis. Though Tails was always ready for this just in case, as he did know how to fly and avoid attacks at night as well. Having Sonic along just increased their odds of either not being attacked or being able to handle themselves if they did come under a late night attack. Either way though, Eggman was likely to know something was up, even if they did make it back to the city without being attacked. A moving high energy signal was bound to eventually garnish some attention. They just hoped it wouldn’t turn out bad for them at some other point for taking this artifact back with them to the city.

Fortunately for the boys, it was a calm quiet flight as the made their way back across the sea and back to the waiting city of New Mobotropolis that they call home. Though by the time the Tornado was coming into view of the city, it was already late at night. Though the lights on the outside of the city were on to make sure you could see it, as well as the runway lights at the airfield, a large number of the lights in the city were already out. New Mobotropolis did have a night life, but it was pretty late at this point so many people were already at home or in bed.

It was a good thing as well though, that the controller of the city, the AI lynx, Nicole, didn’t need to sleep and could already detect the boys plane returning from its journey, as well as the energy signature that they were carrying with them. There was an invisible force field that was up in the evening time for the cities safety, though a small hole does appear for the plane to fly through once it was close enough. This giving the fox the clearance he needed to make a safe and smooth landing at the airfield.

Before Tails could even turn the plane off and get it into the hanger, Sonic was already up and out of the plane walking beside it. “I’ll see you Tails. I’m going to get home and get myself something to eat before bed.” says Sonic trying to let his buddy know that he was going to take off now.

“Sure thing Sonic, but could you take amulet back to our Freedom Fighter city headquarters on your way home? I’m sure the others would like to see it in the morning. Knowing you and likely me as well, the others are likely going to be up and about way before us tomorrow.” says Tails as he reaches beside him and tosses the container down to Sonic that had the amulet inside of it.

Sonic was quick to catch it and smile to Tails. “Sure thing little buddy. I’ll see you in the morning.” says Sonic before speeding off as Tails waves to him as he sends Sonic off now.

While Tails was parking his plane into the airstrip’s hanger, a lynx does materialize out of nowhere on the wing. Unlike some people, Tails didn’t jump at all as he sort of expected it after arriving in the city. Most new people were usually greeted by the same person.

“You two certainly got back late. What did you find out there?” asks Nicole as she did see Sonic take off with whatever was making the energy signature to her, but she did make sure Tails was getting in alright first before she goes to investigate it herself.

“It took us longer to find it than we thought. It was buried in a hidden temple like place underground. We only found it by accident. We found some kind of amulet, and Sonic is taking it back to city HQ for the others to see in the morning.” says Tails figuring he could explain while he was parking the plane and getting out of it.

“Hmmm, I see. Well either way, I have sent notification to your parents that you have arrived safely and should be there shortly. I have done the same for Sonic’s as well.” says Nicole as she watches Tails getting out of his plane looking ready to go now.

“Thanks Nicole. I have plenty of pictures and video on my computer here that you can have and look at during the night if you wish. Be sure and let the others know that we found something and left it back at the HQ.” says Tails as he holds out his hand computer out to Nicole so that she could have it and download the stuff she wanted from it.

“Very well. Get home safe then Tails. I’ll go check to see if Sonic placed the thing you found in the proper place, and if not, I will put it in the right place before beginning my research.” says Nicole as she takes Tails’ computer from him so that she could take it back to her hub and download from it.

“Thanks Nicole. Night!” says Tails as he takes off running as the hanger doors close behind him to keep his plane safe for the night.

Nicole gives a small wave before heading off to check on the things she needed to check on while Tails takes off towards his own home where he hopes to get a quick snack before getting to bed. He had hoped to not disturb his parents in case they were already asleep at the moment when he got in for the night, but Nicole had made sure already that at least one of them knew he had just gotten into town.

Sonic had been quick to already make his way to the meeting building that the Freedom Fighters use in the city when they don’t have time to head out to their hillside headquarters outside of the city. Luckily, they always keep the door unlock, so Sonic was quick to make his way inside to place the container onto the table that they often sit at in the mornings before the start of a new day.

As Sonic was placing it onto the table and does turn to leave, Nicole was just arriving behind him, still holding Tails’ computer. “I see you didn’t just put whatever you two found just on the doorstep again.” she says sarcastically to Sonic, which only got an eye roll from the blue hedgehog.

“Hey, it was still here. Yeah, well it did sort of rain that day and got a little damp, but it was still in good condition.” says Sonic immediately making his excuse about why the last time he was told to leave something at their meeting house, that he had just left it on the steps outside instead of taking it inside and putting it on the table.

“I’m sure it had nothing to do with the fact that Sally fussed at you for an hour after that happened either did it?” asks Nicole as she immediately starts to make her way over towards the table wanting to see what they found for herself. Her curiosity and the strong energy signature was making her more curious about whatever it was and she wanted to learn more about it during the night.

Sonic just looked around a bit before shaking his head to Nicole. “Not at all. I’m just doing what my buddy asked me to do is all.” says Sonic innocently before heading for the door to try and leave.

“Uh huh, right. Either way though, I already sent word that you are here so your parents should be expecting you soon Sonic. I’ll let the others know that this is here for them in the morning.” says Nicole as she starts to dig into the container to check out the amulet for herself.

“Cool. Catch ya later Nicole.” says Sonic before he quickly speeds out the door and towards his home.

Nicole simply rolls her eyes a bit with a smile before getting to her work. The two boys were now making their way homes as she looks at the amulet that the boys had brought home from their expedition to the south. She didn’t recognize any of the writing on either side of the amulet as she holds it and looks it over, but she did think she saw it shine for a bit at one point as she held onto it. Whatever this thing was, she felt it was going to require further research.

Sonic’s house was pretty quiet as he arrives at it, despite the large wooshing sound of him stopping out front once he finally gets there. When he arrives though and heads in the front door, he was quickly greeted by his favorite smell, Chilidogs. Just as he was entering, there was the beeping of the microwave as Sonic’s father Jules, who being a Robian and didn’t need sleep, had made sure to reheat Sonic’s dinner for him so that it was ready for him when he entered the house.

“Welcome home Son. Got your dinner ready for you.” says Jules as he places the tray of Chilidogs onto the table for his arriving sonic.

Sonic couldn’t help but grin as he enters the house and sees his dad having his dinner already ready for him. “Thanks Dad. Good to have something ready for me when I get here.” says Sonic as he was quick to take a seat to dig into his meal.

“Don’t mention it son. I didn’t bother waking your mother as she already went to bed before Nicole gave me the notice you had gotten back into town. I figured the least I could do was get your dinner you missed ready for you by the time you arrived so you didn’t have to wait.” says Jules taking a seat across from Sonic at the table.

“Nice! Thinking ahead for me. Good thing too, because I’m starved after roaming around out there for so long.” says Sonic as he immediately digs into his dinner.

“Well you can dig in and tell me all about it when you want son. I’m not going anywhere.” says Jules making sure Sonic knew he was willing to listen to the hedgehog’s tale if he wished to tell it, since Jules didn’t have to sleep, he was often up all night anyway.

“Eh, we found some strange necklace out there, but that is about it. I thought it was going to be more action, but nothing but some strange neckless inside some underground temple. Nothing interesting really.” says Sonic giving a short, sweet, and sort of crude version about what he and Tails had done earlier in the day down south. While it wasn’t exactly that explanatory, it was still what had happened to the two of them.

“I see. Well at least you and Miles made it back safely and that is what matters.” says Jules trying to perk the mood up a bit again as he was happy Sonic was here with him at the moment, even if he was mostly just stuffing his face instead of talking with him.

“That and I was able to get back to a waiting pile of Chilidogs.” says Sonic chuckling before stuffing another one into his mouth.

Jules simply chuckles as well as he waits for Sonic to finish off the rest of the chilidogs and excuse himself to his room for the night, where knowing Sonic, he was likely going to go right to sleep in his large race car bed, even after downing all those chilidogs so fast. Sonic definitely had the iron stomach in the family, even with jules’ stomach literally being made out of metal.

While Sonic’s night was quick to end after a quick, but heavy meal, Tails had a slightly different experience when he got home for the night. When Tails entered through his front door, what he was greeted with was his mother Rosemary sitting at her desk in the main room looking at papers like she often did in the evening. Since Rosemary was on the council, she did sometimes have paperwork she had to look over for things they would be discussing the next day. However, when she saw Tails enter the house, she couldn’t help but smile and push her papers to the side as she gets up to greet him.

“Welcome home Miles. You are quite late tonight.” says Rosemary as she goes over to greet and also hug her son.

Tails couldn’t help but smile and hug her back as he looks up to her with his tails wagging a bit. “Thanks Mom. Yeah I know we are late. Me and Sonic had a hard time finding what we were looking for out there. We eventually found it, but it took so long to find that we ended up running behind.” says Tails going a bit more slowly about the events that had been taking place.

“Oh really? Why was this thing you were looking for today so hard to find?” asks Rosemary as she motions for Tails to follow her as she goes to get the boy a small snack, since he had missed dinner. Rosemary didn’t want Tails eating something very heavy before going to bed, which she figured he would be doing soon, due to what time it was at the moment. She still wanted him to eat something though.

“My computer was showing us where the energy signature of what we were looking was at, but it turned out to be below us in a hidden temple. Sonic fell through a hole in the ceiling and that’s how we found it. We found some strange amulet in there that we brought back for further study tomorrow, but because of how long we took finding it, we really were just able to take lots of pictures and grab the amulet and go before it got too dark in that jungle.” says Tails explaining what had happened to his mother in detail as she watches her starting to prepare what looked to be a simple meat sandwich for him.

“Well I’m glad you were able to get back home tonight. I’ll get you this sandwich and you can get some sleep.” says Rosemary as she continues to work on the sandwich as Tails goes and takes a seat at the table nearby.

“Yeah, same here. Hey, where is dad?” asks Tails noticing that his father Amadeus didn’t seem to be here at the moment.

“Dad is staying overnight in the field tonight. He and his unit are doing some overnight patrols for the cities safety. He will be back at some point tomorrow Miles.” says Rosemary as she turns and places the small sandwich in front of the fox for him to enjoy.

“Oh okay. I know he needs to do that from time to time.” says Tails nodding as he understands that despite all the work the freedom fighters do, that they couldn’t be everywhere at once, and the royal army did still need to do occasional patrols of the area and other important places that aren’t covered by Nicole’s shield.

Tails does quietly begin eating his sandwich as Rosemary gives him a pat on the head before heading back over towards her papers. “Were you already awake doing that mom?” asks Tails curiously as he turns around to see Rosemary sitting back down at her desk of papers once again.

“Unfortunately yes. We have a full docket of things to discuss tomorrow now that Elias is back in his position, so I need to be up to date on everything that is still in need of repair or all matters that we need to discuss tomorrow.” says Rosemary sighing as she looks at the papers in front of her on the desk.

“I hope you are able to get some sleep soon mom. I thought I was getting home late for sleep, only to find you still up.” says Tails a bit worried about his mom, though he can understand why she and the council would be very busy now that Elias was back in his position as head of the council after all the events that had taken place over the last few months.

“I will dear. I was going to go to bed here in about fifteen minutes anyway, but thank you Miles. You need to get yourself to bed as well as soon as you finish that sandwich.” she says not being able to help but be motherly a bit as she does want the preteen to get to bed soon as it was still late for someone like him to be up and about.

“Yes mom. I was wanting to get to bed anyway.” says Tails as he nibbles on the last little bit of the sandwich that was I his hand. It was feeling good to get something inside of him as he hadn’t eaten since this morning when he and Sonic had left to go on their little adventure. Now that it was mostly eaten now, Tails was thinking of bed himself as he wanted to get plenty of it before going to help the others with the artifact that he and Sonic brought back to them all.

As Tails finishes his sandwich and starts to head towards his room to get some sleep, Rosemary gives the boy a smile as he heads off now. “Night Miles, I’ll see you tomorrow.” says Rosemary as she watches Tails head off into his room.

“Night Mom.” says Tails yawning a bit as he waves goodnight to his mom before turning and heading into his bedroom.

Tails was quick to flop into his bed once he had had his sandwich and was able to get to his bed. He was pretty tired after all the flying and roaming in the rainforest that he had done today. He was ready for a nice long sleep. This was pretty evident with how he was barely under his covered for a few minutes before he was able to drift off to sleep. Tails was able to get a pretty good night sleep, though something did feel a little funny as he was lying there sleeping. He was feeling sort of tingly. Sonic was feeling the same way at his home in his bed. They were both feeling sort of funny in their sleep, but whatever it was that was happening, it wasn’t enough of a concern or of a nuisance for them to be woken up by it. Whatever it was, if it was anything, could wait until morning, where a whole new day could begin for the both of them to enjoy and experience, whatever was to come.

Sonic and the Amulet of Aging

Part 1: Discovery

It was a warm, peaceful summer day in the rainforests of the continent of Soumerca, or it would have been if not but two days ago, a large earthquake hadn’t hit the area. Many trees were down and the ground was cracked in many areas as well. It was damaging, but not anywhere as devastating as it could have been. However, the earthquake caused something strange to appear on the radars of some of the planets inhabitants. And at this moment, a plane was just starting to appear on the horizon as two people from the city of New Mobotropolis were coming to investigate this new energy signature. There was no telling what it was, but anything new was always worth exploring and getting to before anything bad could get to it first, if it wasn’t already something bad.

After circling for a few minutes, the red plane soon comes down and lands in a small clearing that could be found in the dense rainforest. When it lands, out of the plane jumps two teenage Mobians, the first was a seventeen year old blue hedgehog named Sonic the Hedgehog, and the other was an eleven year old yellow fox named Tails Prower. The two adventurers were here for a reason and they intended to find what it was that they were looking for. Tails stood there next to his plane holding a small mini-computer that looked to be used for tracking the energy signal that was coming from the jungle. He looked ready and prepared to follow it the best he could towards their objective, but Sonic was instead dressed with a leather hat and leather gloves with a sparkle in his eye for adventure.

Tails couldn’t help but look over at Sonic and what he was wearing and roll his eyes a bit at it. “Really Sonic? Do you have to wear that stuff every time we have to come explore the Soumercan rainforest?” asks Tails sighing a bit as he says this and the response he gets in return.

“Hehe, why not wear this? We are going to be adventuring in the harsh rainforest with no telling what we will encounter. It is best I be prepared and look the part.” says the blue hedgehog grinning happily as he stares off in the direction they were about to depart towards.

Tails simply sighs a bit and shakes his head as he starts to walk in the direction of where the energy signature was being shown on his computer.

“Then let’s at least get going then Sonic. The signal is coming from this direction. It should take us only a bit to get there.” says the fox as he looks down at his computer to make sure he was right.

“Then let’s get there even faster than that!” says Sonic as he suddenly grabs the fox by the arm and speeds off into the rainforest with the fox immediately yelling out to Sonic in surprise at being grabbed and taken off with little warning that they were about to do so.

Tails didn’t even get to say anything before Sonic had grabbed him and sped off into the rainforest in the direction he had just told the hedgehog they needed to be heading in. All he could do was try and direct Sonic as they zipped past trees at lightning speed. Tails was just glad he was used to moving at this speed after all these years as he was able to direct Sonic the best he could while also holding onto his computer with his free hand.

The fox was happy though when he finally was able to yell out to Sonic once they reached pretty close to where the energy signature was coming from. “STOP SONIC!” yells Tails close to the hedgehog’s ear which does make him come to a pretty sudden stop.

“Around here?” asks Sonic after he had come to a stop in a thick area of the rainforest.

It was very thick in this area, so thick that you couldn’t even see the sky. This made this area pretty dark, even though it was the middle of the day. It was no wonder no one would think to come looking out here for something that would possibly be of use or worth exploring to find. Sonic does look back to Tails and sees him shaking his fur a little bit after coming to a stop so suddenly before looking at his computer once again. Once the fox was comfortable again, he does start to track again.

“It should be around here somewhere Sonic.” says Tails as he looks at the energy signature notification on his computer and then looks around him only to see lots and lots of trees.

“Well I don’t see anything. You sure that thing is working right and there really is something out here buddy?” asks Sonic as he pokes at Tails’ hand computer a few times just to see if it was working.

“Of course it is working right! According to this, the energy signature is very strong around here, so it must be at least two or three hundred feet in any direction from where we are. It can’t be fake at all for the signature to be this strong now that we are here.” says Tails defending himself and his computers findings.

“It could always be just some sort of trap to lure us out into the middle of nowhere to ambush us you know as well Tails. Eggman could have easily thrown some sort of trinket out here to confuse us.” says Sonic stating what he was thinking at the moment while looking around cautiously after saying it.

“I doubt it Sonic. This doesn’t look like any energy signature that Eggman ever uses. His machines may all be different from one another, but many of them use the same energy wavelengths to help even him identify them from far away. This isn’t something I’ve ever seen before. Even Nicole couldn’t recognize this when she tried to identify this energy. We need to find it before anyone else does.” says Tails once again trying to prove to Sonic that this isn’t a trap and it is something that they should find immediately before it does become a trap of some kind.

“Fine fine, I’ll look around some more, you do the same.” says Sonic as he suddenly starts to speed around looking for anything out of the ordinary that would look to be something that would be letting off an energy signature. He had no idea what he was looking for, but he would keep a close out.

Tails didn’t mind if Sonic looked around in his quick way as it might pay off and they could find this item more quickly so that they could get back home. They were already going to more than likely get back after dark, so the quick this took, the earlier they could get back home.

The two adventurers looked around for over a half hour with no results of searching the immediately area. Tails had been walking in circles a few times in certain areas as if he was trying to narrow down his searching, which was a little difficult in this area as the rainforest wasn’t letting much light into the area. His flashlight was helping some, but there were just so many trees in this area, that it was hard to find anything.

Sonic wasn’t fairing much better with speedy searches as he wasn’t spotting anything either. He would occasionally wander too far away from Tails’ search area only to have to call Sonic back to where he says the energy signature was coming from again. Sonic wasn’t exactly thrilled with this either as he wasn’t seeing anything, even after they both were going over the same area several times. Sonic wasn’t known for his patience, so after even more searching, he eventually couldn’t hold himself back anymore and speaks up to his buddy.

“Alright this is getting ridiculous. I know you and Nicole may think something is out here, but Tails I’m not seeing anything. We have both gone over this area several times and there is nothing here!” says Sonic stopping his foot out of frustration and impatience.

Before Tails could even respond to this, when Sonic’s foot hit the ground, the ground immediately collapsed around him and allows him to fall down into a hole that suddenly appeared in the ground. Tails immediately goes wide eyed and runs over towards the hole and shines his light down into it when both saw Sonic fall and the crash of when things were hitting the bottom inside.

“Sonic! Are you okay!” yells out the fox as he lies on his belly at the edge of the sudden new hole in the ground.

When the light is shined into the hole, instead of the small hole in the ground he was expecting, the area below the fox was actually very hollow and on top of that, made of stone and looked to be made and not natural at all. There was a Mobian made structure below them all this time. Inside the hole, there sat Sonic on the floor of the underground structure with dirt around him and covered in some of it as well trying to shake it off of himself.

“Yeah, I’m alright Tails. Just a little dirty, but that doesn’t explain what just happened.” says Sonic very confused as he looks around him only to see what looks to be some sort of stone building, though it was very dark to make out what all it was as well.

“You fell into a hole when you stomped your foot. Hold on, I’m coming down!” yells Tails as he jumps into the hole and hovers himself down to the floor next to Sonic using his tails to slow the fall down and make it safe for him to come inside as well.

Sonic coughed a little bit as he stands up and shakes dirt off of himself and then starts to pat at his hat to get the dirt off of it as well. “Well I wasn’t expecting that.” he says as he starts to take the flashlight that Tails was offering him now.

Tails had a secondary flashlight to use after he gave his own to Sonic to use, which he immediately starts to shine around to see where they were now. “Me either, but it does explain why we weren’t finding anything. I was looking for a structure or some kind of opening. I wasn’t expecting what we were looking for to be below us. That earthquake must have made some cracks in the ground or made it narrow enough for the energy signal to be let out from down here. These thick rock walls would easily block an energy signal.” says Tails as he shines it around the large room they had fallen into.

“Umm, yeah, I guess. But now that it seems we have found something, is this the right place now?” asks Sonic curiously as he shines his light around seeing all sorts of strange writing on the walls around them.

Tails looks at his computer which was showing a much stronger energy signal than it was before, which does make him smile. “It would seem like it Sonic. It says the signal is just a bit in front of us. There should be something around here.” says Tails as he starts to shine the flashlight in the direction he was indicating.

When Tails shines his light in this direction, there was what looked to be a few stairs and then a door to another room. Both boys look at each other and immediately start to walk in the direction of the stairs and doorway as whatever they had been looking for, was most likely on the other side of the door. They made their way quietly up the stairs and to the doorway where Sonic immediately makes his way into the new room to look around as Tails follows him inside right behind him.

When both boys are inside the room, what they saw wasn’t what they were expecting. Sonic and Tails were now standing in small room, where in the middle of it was a tall pedestal and sitting on the middle of the pedestal was a gold colored necklace hanging on a small rack. The necklace was shining from a small bit of light that was in the room. There was also some strange writing both on the front and back of the necklace as well as lots of writing all around the room. Both boys immediately look confused when they see both the necklace and all the writing on the tablets on the walls. Whatever this was, this was obviously very important and what they had likely been looking for since they got here.

“Well this is not what I was expecting.” says Sonic as he immediately walks over towards the artifact in the middle of the room to examine it closer.

“Weird. I was expecting some kind of machine or something else down here. Instead, it looks like some sort of amulet. It is definitely what we are looking for though. My readings are maximized at the moment, so the energy readings are coming from It.” says Tails looking at his computer again and then back up at the amulet Sonic was inspecting.

“This thing? You made it sound like it was going to be something dangerous that we had to worry about.” says Sonic now looking unimpressed with their find. He was expecting something much more dangerous or exciting like when they were here last time awhile back ago when they were after the Ring of Acorns. This amulet, while a pain to find and adventurous a bit, wasn’t what he was expecting.

“Well we don’t know what it is Sonic. For all we know, this amulet could be a lot more dangerous than we expect. They did have it in this building in a place of importance. This sort of looks like some sort of ritual was usually taking place here and this must be the center piece of it. That big room, leading to a small room where an artifact is being kept away from the main room, to where it is likely brought into when the ritual is taking place. That is at least my initial thoughts on this. Who knows, it could just be some ancient Mobian’s jewelry for all we know.” says Tails as he starts telling Sonic his thoughts on what he thinks this artifact could be.

Sonic though doesn’t look too impressed by this and was sort of dazing off from Tails’ explanations as well. “Yeah Yeah, so should we just grab this and go if this is what you were wanting Tails?” asks Sonic looking sort of impatient now as he just wanted to grab the amulet and get out of here now that it was found.

“Whoa Whoa Sonic, we need to document this and our surroundings as well just in case we need it for later. We are going to want to study this amulet, but we also need to get some pictures of the wall writings as well. I’ve never seen this kind of writing before, and if we can translate it back at the city, we might be able to figure out what this thing actually is.” says Tails as he starts to hold his computer up towards some of the wall writings to have it start taking pictures and videos of the writings on the wall around them.

Sonic simply sighs and grabs the amulet off of the pedestal and looks at it more closely now. “Looks like a simple neckless to me.” says Sonic not sounding too impressed. He had also looked ready to run the moment he picked up the amulet, but when he did, just as he expected from how this place looked, nothing happened at all. The place was so run down, that if something had been here to attack them, it was long since rotted away.

“Sonic! Don’t just grab it like that. We need to treat it with respect. Here, put it in this.” says Tails as he reaches behind himself and digs out from the small backpack that he had been carrying around, a small plastic container that he had brought just in case they did find something out here that could be taken back with them.

“Yeah yeah, let’s just get going Tails. This isn’t the high flying action adventure I was thinking it was going to be. I would rather get home to my mom’s chilidogs before it is too late to eat them.” says Sonic as he hands the amulet to Tails.

“Wouldn’t you eat them anyway, even if it was late at night?” asks Tails as he takes the amulet from Sonic before putting it in the container so that he could secure it inside his backpack.

“True. But they taste better when they are fresher.” says Sonic chuckling before heading to the door to see if he could find a way out of here, even if he has to run and jump back out the hole in the ceiling that he had made to get in here.

Tails simply rolls his eyes again before turning to finish getting the pictures and video of the wall writings that he was getting before. He didn’t want to leave without getting up close pictures of video of all of them, because there was no telling what they could be. This place was pretty run down as well, so there was no telling how much longer they would even be here and his pictures might be the only way the stuff would survive into the future.

Tails spent another five minutes taking pictures of the walls inside the room before he headed out and up the hole in the ceiling where he finds Sonic sitting on the ground relaxing and looking bored that he had had to wait for Tails to finish up what he was doing. Tails was pretty used to this at this point though, so it wasn’t anything unusual. Sonic just had to wait until he was finished.

“Alright I’m done Sonic, We can head home now.” says Tails just to let Sonic know that he was ready to go. Tails would have liked to have stayed longer to look around some more, but with Sonic here with him, he knew he couldn’t waste too much time or he would never heard the end of it from Sonic as he would likely start to whine about having to stick around in one spot for so long.

“Good. Let’s get back to the plane so we can get back home.” says Sonic as he flips up to his feet and turns to start making his way back to where Tails had landed the Tornado.

“Alright Sonic, we likely are going to get back a little late though.” says Tails knowing already that they were going to get back to the city in the middle of the night. It was already starting to get dark around here, which added onto the fact that they were in a dense area of the forest, it was going to get super dark soon if they didn’t get back to the Tornado and take off soon. Tails wouldn’t be able to fly if it got much darker in this area.

“As long as we get back.” says Sonic before grabbing onto Tails and taking off back towards the plane at full speed. He didn’t want to waste any more time. He wanted to go home and get his dinner, since he didn’t get the super exciting adventure he was expecting. A good meal would make his day or night better though.

Thanks to Sonic’s running, both he and Tails got back to the Tornado’s landing spot before the sun was completely down and Tails was easily able to make the plane take back off into the Mobius sky. Tails does know that by them taking the amulet with them that they would be letting off an energy signature that would be easily trackable as they were making their way back to New Mobotropolis. Though Tails was always ready for this just in case, as he did know how to fly and avoid attacks at night as well. Having Sonic along just increased their odds of either not being attacked or being able to handle themselves if they did come under a late night attack. Either way though, Eggman was likely to know something was up, even if they did make it back to the city without being attacked. A moving high energy signal was bound to eventually garnish some attention. They just hoped it wouldn’t turn out bad for them at some other point for taking this artifact back with them to the city.

Fortunately for the boys, it was a calm quiet flight as the made their way back across the sea and back to the waiting city of New Mobotropolis that they call home. Though by the time the Tornado was coming into view of the city, it was already late at night. Though the lights on the outside of the city were on to make sure you could see it, as well as the runway lights at the airfield, a large number of the lights in the city were already out. New Mobotropolis did have a night life, but it was pretty late at this point so many people were already at home or in bed.

It was a good thing as well though, that the controller of the city, the AI lynx, Nicole, didn’t need to sleep and could already detect the boys plane returning from its journey, as well as the energy signature that they were carrying with them. There was an invisible force field that was up in the evening time for the cities safety, though a small hole does appear for the plane to fly through once it was close enough. This giving the fox the clearance he needed to make a safe and smooth landing at the airfield.

Before Tails could even turn the plane off and get it into the hanger, Sonic was already up and out of the plane walking beside it. “I’ll see you Tails. I’m going to get home and get myself something to eat before bed.” says Sonic trying to let his buddy know that he was going to take off now.

“Sure thing Sonic, but could you take amulet back to our Freedom Fighter city headquarters on your way home? I’m sure the others would like to see it in the morning. Knowing you and likely me as well, the others are likely going to be up and about way before us tomorrow.” says Tails as he reaches beside him and tosses the container down to Sonic that had the amulet inside of it.

Sonic was quick to catch it and smile to Tails. “Sure thing little buddy. I’ll see you in the morning.” says Sonic before speeding off as Tails waves to him as he sends Sonic off now.

While Tails was parking his plane into the airstrip’s hanger, a lynx does materialize out of nowhere on the wing. Unlike some people, Tails didn’t jump at all as he sort of expected it after arriving in the city. Most new people were usually greeted by the same person.

“You two certainly got back late. What did you find out there?” asks Nicole as she did see Sonic take off with whatever was making the energy signature to her, but she did make sure Tails was getting in alright first before she goes to investigate it herself.

“It took us longer to find it than we thought. It was buried in a hidden temple like place underground. We only found it by accident. We found some kind of amulet, and Sonic is taking it back to city HQ for the others to see in the morning.” says Tails figuring he could explain while he was parking the plane and getting out of it.

“Hmmm, I see. Well either way, I have sent notification to your parents that you have arrived safely and should be there shortly. I have done the same for Sonic’s as well.” says Nicole as she watches Tails getting out of his plane looking ready to go now.

“Thanks Nicole. I have plenty of pictures and video on my computer here that you can have and look at during the night if you wish. Be sure and let the others know that we found something and left it back at the HQ.” says Tails as he holds out his hand computer out to Nicole so that she could have it and download the stuff she wanted from it.

“Very well. Get home safe then Tails. I’ll go check to see if Sonic placed the thing you found in the proper place, and if not, I will put it in the right place before beginning my research.” says Nicole as she takes Tails’ computer from him so that she could take it back to her hub and download from it.

“Thanks Nicole. Night!” says Tails as he takes off running as the hanger doors close behind him to keep his plane safe for the night.

Nicole gives a small wave before heading off to check on the things she needed to check on while Tails takes off towards his own home where he hopes to get a quick snack before getting to bed. He had hoped to not disturb his parents in case they were already asleep at the moment when he got in for the night, but Nicole had made sure already that at least one of them knew he had just gotten into town.

Sonic had been quick to already make his way to the meeting building that the Freedom Fighters use in the city when they don’t have time to head out to their hillside headquarters outside of the city. Luckily, they always keep the door unlock, so Sonic was quick to make his way inside to place the container onto the table that they often sit at in the mornings before the start of a new day.

As Sonic was placing it onto the table and does turn to leave, Nicole was just arriving behind him, still holding Tails’ computer. “I see you didn’t just put whatever you two found just on the doorstep again.” she says sarcastically to Sonic, which only got an eye roll from the blue hedgehog.

“Hey, it was still here. Yeah, well it did sort of rain that day and got a little damp, but it was still in good condition.” says Sonic immediately making his excuse about why the last time he was told to leave something at their meeting house, that he had just left it on the steps outside instead of taking it inside and putting it on the table.

“I’m sure it had nothing to do with the fact that Sally fussed at you for an hour after that happened either did it?” asks Nicole as she immediately starts to make her way over towards the table wanting to see what they found for herself. Her curiosity and the strong energy signature was making her more curious about whatever it was and she wanted to learn more about it during the night.

Sonic just looked around a bit before shaking his head to Nicole. “Not at all. I’m just doing what my buddy asked me to do is all.” says Sonic innocently before heading for the door to try and leave.

“Uh huh, right. Either way though, I already sent word that you are here so your parents should be expecting you soon Sonic. I’ll let the others know that this is here for them in the morning.” says Nicole as she starts to dig into the container to check out the amulet for herself.

“Cool. Catch ya later Nicole.” says Sonic before he quickly speeds out the door and towards his home.

Nicole simply rolls her eyes a bit with a smile before getting to her work. The two boys were now making their way homes as she looks at the amulet that the boys had brought home from their expedition to the south. She didn’t recognize any of the writing on either side of the amulet as she holds it and looks it over, but she did think she saw it shine for a bit at one point as she held onto it. Whatever this thing was, she felt it was going to require further research.

Sonic’s house was pretty quiet as he arrives at it, despite the large wooshing sound of him stopping out front once he finally gets there. When he arrives though and heads in the front door, he was quickly greeted by his favorite smell, Chilidogs. Just as he was entering, there was the beeping of the microwave as Sonic’s father Jules, who being a Robian and didn’t need sleep, had made sure to reheat Sonic’s dinner for him so that it was ready for him when he entered the house.

“Welcome home Son. Got your dinner ready for you.” says Jules as he places the tray of Chilidogs onto the table for his arriving sonic.

Sonic couldn’t help but grin as he enters the house and sees his dad having his dinner already ready for him. “Thanks Dad. Good to have something ready for me when I get here.” says Sonic as he was quick to take a seat to dig into his meal.

“Don’t mention it son. I didn’t bother waking your mother as she already went to bed before Nicole gave me the notice you had gotten back into town. I figured the least I could do was get your dinner you missed ready for you by the time you arrived so you didn’t have to wait.” says Jules taking a seat across from Sonic at the table.

“Nice! Thinking ahead for me. Good thing too, because I’m starved after roaming around out there for so long.” says Sonic as he immediately digs into his dinner.

“Well you can dig in and tell me all about it when you want son. I’m not going anywhere.” says Jules making sure Sonic knew he was willing to listen to the hedgehog’s tale if he wished to tell it, since Jules didn’t have to sleep, he was often up all night anyway.

“Eh, we found some strange necklace out there, but that is about it. I thought it was going to be more action, but nothing but some strange neckless inside some underground temple. Nothing interesting really.” says Sonic giving a short, sweet, and sort of crude version about what he and Tails had done earlier in the day down south. While it wasn’t exactly that explanatory, it was still what had happened to the two of them.

“I see. Well at least you and Miles made it back safely and that is what matters.” says Jules trying to perk the mood up a bit again as he was happy Sonic was here with him at the moment, even if he was mostly just stuffing his face instead of talking with him.

“That and I was able to get back to a waiting pile of Chilidogs.” says Sonic chuckling before stuffing another one into his mouth.

Jules simply chuckles as well as he waits for Sonic to finish off the rest of the chilidogs and excuse himself to his room for the night, where knowing Sonic, he was likely going to go right to sleep in his large race car bed, even after downing all those chilidogs so fast. Sonic definitely had the iron stomach in the family, even with jules’ stomach literally being made out of metal.

While Sonic’s night was quick to end after a quick, but heavy meal, Tails had a slightly different experience when he got home for the night. When Tails entered through his front door, what he was greeted with was his mother Rosemary sitting at her desk in the main room looking at papers like she often did in the evening. Since Rosemary was on the council, she did sometimes have paperwork she had to look over for things they would be discussing the next day. However, when she saw Tails enter the house, she couldn’t help but smile and push her papers to the side as she gets up to greet him.

“Welcome home Miles. You are quite late tonight.” says Rosemary as she goes over to greet and also hug her son.

Tails couldn’t help but smile and hug her back as he looks up to her with his tails wagging a bit. “Thanks Mom. Yeah I know we are late. Me and Sonic had a hard time finding what we were looking for out there. We eventually found it, but it took so long to find that we ended up running behind.” says Tails going a bit more slowly about the events that had been taking place.

“Oh really? Why was this thing you were looking for today so hard to find?” asks Rosemary as she motions for Tails to follow her as she goes to get the boy a small snack, since he had missed dinner. Rosemary didn’t want Tails eating something very heavy before going to bed, which she figured he would be doing soon, due to what time it was at the moment. She still wanted him to eat something though.

“My computer was showing us where the energy signature of what we were looking was at, but it turned out to be below us in a hidden temple. Sonic fell through a hole in the ceiling and that’s how we found it. We found some strange amulet in there that we brought back for further study tomorrow, but because of how long we took finding it, we really were just able to take lots of pictures and grab the amulet and go before it got too dark in that jungle.” says Tails explaining what had happened to his mother in detail as she watches her starting to prepare what looked to be a simple meat sandwich for him.

“Well I’m glad you were able to get back home tonight. I’ll get you this sandwich and you can get some sleep.” says Rosemary as she continues to work on the sandwich as Tails goes and takes a seat at the table nearby.

“Yeah, same here. Hey, where is dad?” asks Tails noticing that his father Amadeus didn’t seem to be here at the moment.

“Dad is staying overnight in the field tonight. He and his unit are doing some overnight patrols for the cities safety. He will be back at some point tomorrow Miles.” says Rosemary as she turns and places the small sandwich in front of the fox for him to enjoy.

“Oh okay. I know he needs to do that from time to time.” says Tails nodding as he understands that despite all the work the freedom fighters do, that they couldn’t be everywhere at once, and the royal army did still need to do occasional patrols of the area and other important places that aren’t covered by Nicole’s shield.

Tails does quietly begin eating his sandwich as Rosemary gives him a pat on the head before heading back over towards her papers. “Were you already awake doing that mom?” asks Tails curiously as he turns around to see Rosemary sitting back down at her desk of papers once again.

“Unfortunately yes. We have a full docket of things to discuss tomorrow now that Elias is back in his position, so I need to be up to date on everything that is still in need of repair or all matters that we need to discuss tomorrow.” says Rosemary sighing as she looks at the papers in front of her on the desk.

“I hope you are able to get some sleep soon mom. I thought I was getting home late for sleep, only to find you still up.” says Tails a bit worried about his mom, though he can understand why she and the council would be very busy now that Elias was back in his position as head of the council after all the events that had taken place over the last few months.

“I will dear. I was going to go to bed here in about fifteen minutes anyway, but thank you Miles. You need to get yourself to bed as well as soon as you finish that sandwich.” she says not being able to help but be motherly a bit as she does want the preteen to get to bed soon as it was still late for someone like him to be up and about.

“Yes mom. I was wanting to get to bed anyway.” says Tails as he nibbles on the last little bit of the sandwich that was I his hand. It was feeling good to get something inside of him as he hadn’t eaten since this morning when he and Sonic had left to go on their little adventure. Now that it was mostly eaten now, Tails was thinking of bed himself as he wanted to get plenty of it before going to help the others with the artifact that he and Sonic brought back to them all.

As Tails finishes his sandwich and starts to head towards his room to get some sleep, Rosemary gives the boy a smile as he heads off now. “Night Miles, I’ll see you tomorrow.” says Rosemary as she watches Tails head off into his room.

“Night Mom.” says Tails yawning a bit as he waves goodnight to his mom before turning and heading into his bedroom.

Tails was quick to flop into his bed once he had had his sandwich and was able to get to his bed. He was pretty tired after all the flying and roaming in the rainforest that he had done today. He was ready for a nice long sleep. This was pretty evident with how he was barely under his covered for a few minutes before he was able to drift off to sleep. Tails was able to get a pretty good night sleep, though something did feel a little funny as he was lying there sleeping. He was feeling sort of tingly. Sonic was feeling the same way at his home in his bed. They were both feeling sort of funny in their sleep, but whatever it was that was happening, it wasn’t enough of a concern or of a nuisance for them to be woken up by it. Whatever it was, if it was anything, could wait until morning, where a whole new day could begin for the both of them to enjoy and experience, whatever was to come.
