Continued-9 Years Ago-
“Cuphead. Wake up, sweetie.”
Cuphead woke up to see his teacup mother, she picked up the sleepy 3-year-old cup and carried him into the kitchen. Cuphead saw that his 2-year-old brother was eating cereal with marshmallows.
Mugman was making a big mess, spilling his cereal everywhere. Cuphead smacks his face with disappointment, and walks towards his coffee mug father, who picks up his son and lets him sit in his lap.
“Daddy?”
“Yes, Cuphead?”
“Where are you and Mommy going?”
He realized that the cup saw the suitcases next to the chair.
“We are going on a little trip…”
“But, where?”
Cuphead felt someone hold his hand. It was Mugman, who had washed his hands after he was done eating, and Cuphead knew he wanted to play.
“Mommy? Does Mugman ever talk?”
“Sometimes, he’s just very shy. Cuphead… you know that.”
The little mug tugged Cuphead’s hand and led him into their bedroom, and they had many toys. It seemed like hours that they played together. They finally played hide and seek, and Mugman was hiding first.
“1…2…3…4…5…6…7…8…9…10! Ready or not, here I come!!!”
Cuphead started searching the house when he heard giggling. He scoffed with a smile and decided to give the mug a little bit of time and go easy on him.
Eventually he knew it was time to say that he found him, when suddenly he heard the door. Someone was breaking in!!
Cuphead’s mother ran to Cuphead and looked panicked.
“Cuphead, go get Mugman and go into the secret hidden room, okay?!”
“Okay!”
Cuphead ran to where Mugman was hiding.
“Mugsy!!! We have to hide!!!”
“Huh?”
The mug ran out of his hiding place and was surprised when Cuphead grabbed his hand and ran to the closet. Mugman watched as his brother removed a piece of the wall and saw a little hiding room. Cuphead helped his brother into the room and blocked the hole with the piece of the wall.
“Mugsy… try to stay quiet… okay?”
“Okay…”
The scared mug clung tightly to the cup, and they hugged while staying quiet. Cuphead noticed Mugman’s eyes wide with fear as the cups heard the door break open, and they heard glass breaking and doors smashing, and they heard yelling and screaming. Cuphead saw Mugman was about to cry, and hugged him tighter, comforting his little brother.
Eventually, an hour later, the brothers heard no more noises, and they knew the burglars had left. Cuphead quietly stepped out to check his surroundings, and helped Mugman out of the hole. Cuphead stopped and blocked Mugman’s eyes, for their parents were lying on the floor, heads shattered.
Cuphead started to cry, held Mugman tightly, and ran out of the house toward their neighbor. They were eventually adopted by Elder Kettle, and Cuphead didn’t talk for 3 months.
Present-
Cuphead was crying and Hilda was hugging the cup.
“Cuphead… let me help you-”
“NO!”
“Cuphead… be reasonable… you can’t defeat the Devil by yourself.”
“I can try…”
“Cuphead!”
“LOOK!!! IT’S ALL MY FAULT THAT THIS HAPPENED!!! I WAS THE ONE WHO PUT ME AND MUGMAN’S SOULS ON THE LINE!!! I TOOK YOUR CONTRACTS!!! I WAS THE ONE WHO HID AWAY IN A SECRET ROOM LIKE A COWARD AND MY PARENTS WERE-”
“Cuphead…”
Cuphead started to walk away, he ignored Hilda, who was yelling his name. Cuphead couldn’t let anyone else get hurt… or killed. He was done, with the violence, the death, the harm, the Devil, and his dumb mistakes.
He had blamed himself for his parents’ deaths for 9 years. He was three when he saw his dead mother and father, and he covered Mugman’s eyes so that his innocence wouldn’t be lost either.
He had gambled his soul for money and riches. He had not listened to his own brother. He had gone to Mobius. He had allowed the Devil to take Sonic and Tails’ souls, and he had betrayed the trust of his friends several times.
He wouldn’t stand by and let everyone get hurt because of his mistakes.
He won’t.
Sonic’s House-
Sonic was running around, circling Mugman, Elder Kettle, and Knuckles. Tails gave an evil grin and walked toward the mug, who was frozen in fear. Tails was about to smash him with a rock when a thorny vine smacked Tails against a tree. Mugman turned around and saw-
“Cagney!”
“Mugman! You alright?”
“I am now. Cuphead ran off, and he blames himself for what happened to all of us. I think he’s going to fight the Devil by himself.”
“Cuphead, God, Damn It!!”
Cagney started to pull on his petals in frustration, and he slowly calmed down.
“Which way did he go?”
“I don’t know-”
“Damn it, Cuphead!!! GOD DAMN IT!!!”
Mugman stared at the raging flower, and he saw footprints. Perhaps he did know where Cuphead went.
“Looks like he is headed for Hilda’s place…”
“I- I JUST CAME FROM THERE!!!! AGHHHHH!!!”
Knuckles limped towards Mugman and looked into his eyes.
“I will only slow you down… you guys go… I’ll deal with my friends…”
“But, you are hurt, Knuckles…”
Knuckles pulled the piece of wood out of his leg, wincing, and then stomping his foot into the ground. He turned around to face the hedgehog and fox, and he cracked his knuckles. He started to fight them, while Mugman, Cagney, and Elder Kettle walked to Hilda’s Starhouse.
Hell-
Sonic woke up, he was in a weird place, in a cage. He looked at his surroundings, seeing Tails lying on the ground. Sonic just stared, because Tails looked like a ghost, then he realized he did too.
“Hey, Tails, wake up.”
The kit’s soul woke up and looked at Sonic. Tails freaked out and backed against the cage.
“S-Sonic… you’re a…”
“You are too!!”
“What? But- how?”
“I don’t know lil’ bro…”
They suddenly heard footsteps, and they turned and saw the Devil looking into the cage. Tails was absolutely terrified of the Devil, and he hid behind his hedgehog brother. Sonic gave the Devil a deathly stare, and the Devil chuckled.
“Oh… you think you’re so tough, don’t you, hedgehog?”
“I’m not afraid of you, Devil!”
“Well, you soon will be-”
Sonic then spat at the Devil, which made him very angry. The Devil then grabbed Tails’ soul and started squeezing him. Sonic heard Tails’ screams fill his ears, and he tried to fight back. He attempted to stop the Devil, but the Devil kicked the blue soul back into the cage, then threw Tails back in.
“Think twice before you do that to me, got it?”
Sonic held his unconscious brother close and nodded his head. He had Tails’ head on his lap and he backed against the wall to protect him. The yellow-orange soul eventually woke up, and he felt that Sonic was rubbing his forehead locks, which made him giggle a little.
But then Tails frowned, then he had mild fear on his face, then he started screaming louder than any scream Sonic had ever heard, and Tails’ tears went into some strange jars, and then Sonic felt a sharp pain. Sonic fought the pain, excruciating and horrible, then he realized that the cage has an invisible wall that gave them unlimited torture.
Cuphead’s Location-
Cuphead fought the tears as he walked through the endless forest, the sun was going down, the warm light was hibernating for the rest of the day, and then into the night. The cup sat down, thinking about if he was doing the right thing. The cup looked up and saw the sunset, and he smiled.
His eyes grew heavy, and the cup fell asleep. The stars then rolled in, and the owls hooted. The woodland creatures went into their little holes and nests. The moon was big and bright, and it filled the sky with the white light. Cuphead had woken up and continued to walk, the dark was a little better, because it was harder for people to see him.
Cuphead looked ahead of where he was standing, and he saw the spectacular sight of the casino that started it all, the one he was going to destroy.
Sonic’s House-
The devilish Sonic had awoken and so had the evil Tails. They rubbed their head and realized that Mugman and the others were gone, then they searched the area. Tails took the skies, and Sonic ran around the surface. They couldn’t find the mug and his friends, which pissed them off.
Hell-
Sonic and Tails were inside the cage, Tails had tears in 8 jars now, and Sonic hasn’t cried yet. He can’t… he needs to fight it, he needs to be strong for the sake of the world. The orange-yellow soul was too weak to cry, and was being cradled and soothed by his brother. Tails couldn’t even open his eyes, Sonic held Tails closer, he had to fight for Tails.
Sonic heard a noise and looked to see King Dice was walking toward the pained souls.
“Wh-what are y-you d-doing t-to us…?”
The hedgehog was wondering what King Dice was doing here. Suddenly, the cage had broke, freeing the two Mobian souls, King Dice… freed them.
“Why?”
“GO!! GO BACK TO YOUR BODIES!!! HURRY!!!”
Sonic held Tails, who was starting to open his eyes.
“Thank you.”
Then Sonic and Tails flew through the ceiling of hell.
Hilda’s Starhouse-
Hilda was staring off into space where Cuphead had left. “Should I follow him?” Hilda asked herself. Then she heard people yelling her name, she saw it was Mugman, Cagney, Elder Kettle, and someone she had never seen before.
“Mugman? What is it?”
“Cuphead left… did you see him head here…”
“Yes… I tried to stop him, he going to try and stop the Devil by himself… he blames himself.”
Hilda looked at the red echidna.
“Knuckles the Echidna… Guardian of the Master Emerald.”
“Ooooh… it’s so big.”
Hilda then noticed that Knuckles was hurt, and she ran to him.
“Oh my… these need to be cleaned or they’ll get infected… hold on…”
Hilda ran inside her house and looked of her first aid kit. She found it under in the sink cabinet and ran toward the echidna, cleaning the wounds, Knuckles treating it like it was a flick from a finger. She wrapped the bandages around his injuries, finally done, and she helped Knuckles up onto his feet.
“How’d you feel?”
“Quite nicer. Now… I need to know about this… Cuphead you keep talking about, and why did the Devil take my friend’s souls?”
“You’re Sonic and Tails’ friend?”
“Yes, and… the Devil is blocking the Master Emerald’s Chaos Energy Connection.”
They all listened in as the echidna explained everything about the Master Emerald.
“The Master Emerald has been guarded by my ancestors for generations, for it holds unlimited power of Chaos Energy, and it also controls the Chaos Emeralds. I had noticed a few days ago, that the power was being held back by something. I walked to Sonic’s house to see if Tails could find out what was wrong with it, and he said the Devil himself was doing it. Then he came and attacked us, and I heard the screaming of Tails… his soul was taken out, and his almost lifeless body had fallen, next was Sonic. He sent a wave of fire, which knocked a wall onto me, and a piece of it went through my leg… he was about to take mine, when he heard Cuphead, Mugman, and the kettle man coming, and he left.”
Everyone was quiet. Mugman stepped foreward.
“We have to find Cuphead before it’s too late!!! The Devil can kill him!!!!”
Everyone saw that Mrs. Chalice flying towards them.
“We have to find Cuphead!!!!!”
