Continued-“What do you mean his soul is black?!”
“There is a soul barrier, separating the soul from the body… it caused him to fall asleep and never wake up… this is not an ordinary coma. It was created by the Devil himself… and… his soul is in danger. Because of the soul barrier, he is now able to take his soul, with or without a soul contract.”
Sonic held Tails’ hand firmly and looked at him. He was only a kid, and if the Devil wanted to… he could take his soul without any problems. Sonic felt protective, he felt like his job at the moment was to protect Tails, no matter what.
“Can you break the barrier?”
“I might, but… he won’t be the same…”
“What do you mean?”
“I mean, this barrier was made by the Devil. There could be behavioral changes, sanity changes, or personality changes, it's very risky.”
Sonic thought about this. It means that Tails might not be a sweet, innocent child anymore… instead he could turn into a rude, disrespectful brat.
“Is there a chance he could stay the same?”
“It’s a low chance… but, yes… there is a chance.”
“Is there a way to make him stay his normal way?”
“No…”
“... I want you to do it.”
“You sure?”
“Yes… if he changes, I can try to help him be nicer, or happier, or whatever the problem is…”
“Alright… I’ll do it.”
Mugman realized what Mrs. Chalice was about to do and ran towards her, but was too late.
Mrs. Chalice turned into her spirit form and placed her hand slightly above Tails’ head, then she slowly lowered her arms, and a black, glowing ball of energy came out, and then she disintegrated it.
Tails then opened his eyes, his eyes were black, and then his eyes transitioned back to normal. He sat up, but he had a disappointed look on his face. Sonic walked toward him to hug him, but Tails punched him in the face. Sonic fell to the ground and looked into Tails’ eyes, and knew that this was not the kid he knew.
“Why’d you punch me Tails?!?!”
Tails didn’t answer.
“Why’d you punch me Tails?”
Mrs. Chalice’s face was full of fear. She saw something was still inside Tails’ mind… it was a piece of the Devil, the barrier protected him from that piece. The Devil has invaded his mind, and Mrs. Chalice had to remove it. Mrs. Chalice flew at Tails and threw him down, and ripped the Devil out of him. The Devil disintegrated in her hands, and Tails lay there, not moving.
“What’d you do?”
“The Devil was inside of him… the barrier was protecting him…”
“But, why would the Devil place a barrier between Tails’ mind and himself?”
“He didn’t…”
Mrs. Chalice looked at Mugman.
“He did…”
Cala’s Oceanside-
“Cuphead… we don’t want to hurt you… you can fight it!!!”
“Pity… I kinda wanted to fight you… now I want to KILL you…”
Cuphead pointed his gun-like finger at them.
“Cuphead!”
“STOP TALKING! MORE DYING!”
“STOP!”
Everyone looks behind Cuphead, and he turned around to see Elder Kettle. He was looking directly at Cuphead. Cuphead looked back at Elder Kettle, and he slowly put his hand down.
“Cuphead… you have to fight it…”
“Why should I, why for you?!”
“Because, when you and Mugman were just little cups… I raised you… when you and Mugman were alone. I raised you, and you are a good boy Cuphead, and the Cuphead I raised would never kill anyone, especially his friends.”
“...”
“Come here, boy. Come give this old kettle a hug.”
Cuphead glitched in and out of his demon form, and then he fell to the ground. He looked normal again, and Elder Kettle and the others ran to Cuphead. Elder Kettle lifted Cuphead, and Cuphead looked into Elder Kettle’s eyes.
“I-I’m s-so sorry E-Elder Kettle… H-he has m-my soul and h-he-”
“It’s okay, Cuphead…”
Cuphead tried to hug Elder Kettle, but could barely move because of how weak he was. Also considering he just fought against the Devil’s power, without his soul… so… yeah, of course, he is weak. Elder Kettle held and hugged the cup tightly, smiling, as happy tears came down. Cuphead’s tears filled his eyes and leaked down his glass face. He finally was strong enough to hug back.
Hell-
Cuphead’s soul was lying down on the floor of the cage when suddenly, he flew up and broke the cage into pieces, and jars of soul tears shattered and the tear absorbed into the free cup’s soul… and the soul flew away. The Devil looked at the scene and yelled in anger.
“NOOOOOOO!!!!! WHERE DO YOU THINK YOU’RE GOING, CUP?!?!?”
The Devil stood there… not blinking.
“What the hell just happened?”
Hospital-
Mugman was standing there. The room was quiet, and Hilda, Sonic, and Mrs. Chalice were looking at the nervous mug.
“I did what?”
“Mugman… you placed the barrier… to protect him… while you were in the room alone with him, you placed the barrier, because you sensed the Devil was coming… you… you knew this would happen… didn’t you?”
“I- I don’t know what you-”
“Don’t lie Mugman.”
“...fine. I knew that he was coming… the Devil… I knew he was coming after he got Cuphead, I heard his voice in my head. When he hurt Tails, I knew that, somehow, the Devil latched a piece of himself to him. So… I made a barrier, to protect him.”
“So that’s why you ran over… but, sadly you’re not-”
“As fast as ME.”
“Yes… Sonic…”
Sonic turned when he heard groaning behind him.
“Sonic?”
“TAILS!!!”
Sonic ran and hugged Tails so tightly, Tails eyes were wide and he could hardly breathe.
“OH! Sorry about that lil’ buddy.”
“It’s fine…”
Mrs. Chalice flew towards Tails, and placed her hand over his forehead.
“What… are you doing?”
“Checking for any signs of the Devil.. And… you’re safe.”
“...”
“Hi, Tails…”
“Hey, Mugman. Sonic… what happened?”
*After explaining everything*
“Wait, so… the Devil latched himself to me?”
“Yeah… I was scared for you, lil’ buddy…”
“Did I hurt anyone?”
“You punched me… but, I can take it.”
“Oh…”
Suddenly, there were voices in the hallways. Sonic, Mrs. Chalice, Mugman, and Hilda looked and saw that the reason thing got loud was because… Cuphead and Elder Kettle were being taken in.
“Sir. Are you injured?”
“No, but Cuphead is… hang in there, boy.”
Cuphead’s eyes started to close, but Cuphead kept blink to stay awake. Mugman saw this and ran to the cup.
“CUPHEAD!?!? Is that you!?!”
“M-Mugsy?”
“Cuphead!”
Mugman felt a hand on his shoulder, and he turned to see Elder Kettle. Mugman started to tear up and jumped at Elder Kettle, hugging him tightly. The kettle hugged the boy mug back, comforting him.
“Is Cuphead alright? What happened?”
“He… had a moment of corruption, but this old kettle won’t let the Devil take his boys.”
Mugman chuckled lightly, but then slowly frowned when he saw Cuphead through the window of the hospital room. Then a nurse saw him and closed the blinds.
Mugman looked into Elder Kettle's eyes.
“What if the Devil is too strong this time?”
