Yeah, but its rocks are black and sharpy. And they can transmit his power. Remember the horn of Shining Armor, or the fragment of his horn which overpassed the Crystal Empire force field and made some black rocks appearing around.
Besides, the text of the comic speaks for itself. With "... snowlands surrounding the Crystal empire" or the Conductor who mentions the first banishment of the Tyran by the princesses.
