Is it bad that I just now realized, with the help of that last panel, that the Crystal Empire being up north can relate to snow crystals? It's an obvious connection, in retrospect. I can't believe it took me this long.
I'm still holding out hope that Flutterbat is coming back in Season 5. Maybe, one of the Mane Six's trips takes them to a reclusive Batpony colony, and Fluttershy has to reveal that she's still affected by the incident in order to gain the trust of the Batponies. In turn, the Batponies teach her to control her urges rather than fight them, and from then on, Fluttershy, instead of going through the mental anguish of resisting, lets herself become a Batpony at sundown each night, and reverts to her Pegasus self at sunrise.
