Description
You were currently in the process of moving into the city of Tokyo because of your father who got promoted to a job inner-city. The entire idea of moving into the city was nostalgic in your eyes, since you've always been one to admire the culture and aspects your nation had to offer. For most of your life, you've lived in a town where the sprawl had barely touched. It was only natural for you to want to go out into the world to see it's wondrous features, not just visualize it from the words you read on paper. In those days, you felt as though life had no purpose.
The monotony of having a blue collar life made me feel like there was no higher purpose that this town had to offer. The monotony that you couldn't truly be yourself unless if you were in your element, and the city seemed to be calling out to you,
"You belong here."
No matter how your emotions brewed within you, you didn't show it to others. But sometimes, you would have times where you would in fact display it in public. Once in a blue moon, you would sing or whistle while you'd work during your part-time working hours. And on even more occasional instances, a higher-up would catch you being creative and force you to get back to work.
"Quit these pretentious things and just punch the clock."*
You always wondered why they would tell you to stop. You always completed your work and accomplished your daily goals, so what was the harm into having you doing something as simple as singing? Maybe by expressing yourself, you just reminded the surrounding people of you just how miserable they felt.
But now, you would get to finally escape this hell of a lifestyle, for your tastes anyways, and go to a place where you could find sanctuary. A safe haven amongst admirers of modern culture; where they can gather their own thoughts and ideas about life.
Your eyes shut close as you inaudibly sighed, going into deep thought about your newfound lifestyle here in Tokyo. On the start of your third year of high school, you enrolled in a school in Tokyo, commonly known as Nekoma High. Still, you haven't gotten a new part-time job to pay for college funds, but you swore as soon as you settled down completely that you would look for one immediately.
And much to your dismay, the city-life was not how you'd expected it to be. For if you had told your past self how life in the city really was, it would be quite the unconvincing argument because of your passion and wistfulness of the ideal city-life before.
It's not that it was terrible, per se. It was just that it wasn't all it was cracked up to be. The people you would encounter barely had time to talk, no, barely had time to do practically anything but rushing themselves to wherever they needed to be. And that fact alone was one to crush your spirits.
The only good thing about this whole ordeal was that you lived in a neighborhood, unlike your old one, where two of your neighbors were the same age as you. Well, one the same age, and the other one year younger than the two of you, but you all got along just the same. Although they were both quite eccentric, especially in their hairstyle choices, they were a blast to be around.
The best thing about them was that they weren't like most people who inhabited the city; who barely had time for anything or anyone but themselves. No, the three of you grew closer and closer together by mere weeks that slipped through your fingers. And you loved every second of it.
Even though you weren't in the volleyball business, you still never hesitated them with their injuries and such, earning their trust as a result.
Kozume Kenma, or 'Pudding Cat' was a year younger than you and had a very calm atmosphere and a laid-back sort of personality. He never gets too excited over anything, and you've never seen him loose his temper. On a sociable level, you hardly see him speak to others. Even when he is with his closest companions, he still fails at having any sort of deep conversation with them. Kenma hated formalities, so everyone referred to him by his first name, and was excruciatingly cautious about what he said and how he reacted around others, since he felt insecure and vulnerable about how others would think of him.
Kuroo Tetsurou, on the other hand, was an entirely different story. Although his personality was laid-back like Kenma's, it was also scheming as well. In fact, he was considered the "provocation expert." And to showcase such a talent, he would demonstrate it by teasing you. From mimicking words you would say in a childish, falsetto voice, to finding excuses to ask you about everything, to just being a typical Kuroo.
Both you and the bed-haired boy had almost every class together, and in each of those particular classes, he would almost always sit near you, and if he didn't, he would always strike the silliest of conversations.
And with each passing day, you had come to realize everything you thought and everything you do was all influenced in a newfound importance to your life. How you would stay after school occasionally for the sole fact that you would get more time to spend with Kuroo. How you resented anyone who would go to him for flirtatious purposes for some reason that was beyond you. Hell, sometimes you would greet him in the hallways just to hear his voice, which sounded creepy out loud, but it didn't really matter if you kept it locked in the deepest vaults of your mind.
And suddenly, it all boiled down to one inevitable conclusion, you obviously had growing feelings for the guy. And how exactly would you act upon such feelings? You mentally shook your head at yourself, you didn't even know how to answer that.
Boy, wasn't this troublesome.
Halloween. The most polarized of all holidays. And what you meant by polarized is opinionated-wise. You had the people who thought it was all that and a bag of chips. The people who thought it was an utter abomination amongst holidays, completely irrelevant to their clearly more mature lifestyles. And the people who just didn't really care altogether.
Now, most of the time you would be quite excited for a time such as this, but this year, it's like the flame had been burnt out earlier than anticipated. You didn't even have a costume prepared, so you simply 'borrowed' your sister's Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz costume and just went with that. Even though as soon as you walked out into the surprisingly nice night, there were about a dozen other Dorothy's wandering about the streets, making you sweat-drop.
Just as you decided perhaps this wasn't such a good idea to wear such a cliched costume for Halloween, you were interrupted.
"Yo (y/n)!" Called a familiar, deep voice that you have come to grow very find of.
You looked to your right, only to reveal your best friend with a scarecrow costume on. One that was so close to resembling the Scarecrow from The Wizard of Oz. A look of disbelief was etched upon your features as you looked him up and down, "Dude, was this on purpose?"
An gleam of amusement sparkled in his catlike eyes, "What do you think?"
You suppressed a laugh by biting down on your bottom lip, walking towards him, "Was there any other costume you had in mind for tonight?"
The ebony haired male shook his head as he began to walk down the sidewalk with you, "Well, I did consider wearing my volleyball uniform."
You gave him a puzzled look, as he continued, his grin growing wider with each passing second, "If that was the case, I'd be dressed as the coolest captain around."
You rolled your eyes as you playfully punched him in the shoulders, "So, where's Kenma?"
Kuroo shrugged as his gaze looked down onto yours, "He got sick, remember?" "Oh yeah."
You gave him a teethy grin, your eyes shining with excitement, "So, where to, captain?"
As a crowd began to form quite dramatically on this certain area of the neighborhood, Kuroo's hand gripped yours tightly, but not hard enough for it to hurt you. Just for the sake of you not getting absorbed into the crowd, "I don't know about trick-or-treating, so how about we just go to the movies or something. I hear they're holding a horror showing tonight, let's go?"
You nodded hesitantly, "Well.. are you sure we have to watch a horror movie?"
"Yup." A shit-eating grin made an appearance onto his face. And even with the crowd melting away, Kuroo's grip on your hand didn't seem to fade, a pink tinge dusted the sides of your face ever so faintly.
The thoughts of confessing your feelings for him before seemed like a death sentence. But now, you just couldn't keep it subdued inside your mind any longer. Keeping them locked in the dark vaults in the bottom of your heart was absolute torture, especially when those feelings were meant to soar throughout your body, not locked up in such a small space in your heart.
A sigh emitted from your soft lips as you decided to go with straightforward approach, since Kuroo was a straightforward person, "Hey Kuroo, I need to tell youโ"
A hum sounded from Kuroo as he leaned in very close to your face, the close proximity only making the light tinge of pink turn fifty shades darker, "Hold still for a sec, (y/n). It looks like you got something on your forehead."
And before you could say anything, Kuroo leant down and pressed his lips on your forehead. You were at a loss for words, but instead you absentmindedly let out a hum of approval, only to create a bigger grin on your best friend's face, "So, what did you want to say?"
A small grin formed on your lips, "Same as you."
Now no grin in the world could possibly compete with the one that Kuroo had on now. Two arms found their way around your waist as they pulled you closer to his chest, "Okay, then I'm sure you wouldn't mind if I did this." In a blink of an eye, his lips swooped down to capture yours into a kiss, which you happily returned the favor.
Although it was a plain kiss, for teenagers anyways, it was soft and sweet. None of those melodramatic wet-kisses you'd see in a drama. No, it just showed you that it wasn't the passion in the kiss that made the kiss euphoric. It was the feelings and emotions behind it.
