Yes, it is a trilogy by Dianna Wynne Jones! Miyazaki's move is based of of it. Definitely read it if you get a chance, it is really good ^^

i'm a bit disappointed studio ghibli didn't came up with howls moving castle themselves, but looking at the movie the book must be really good and imaginative. hehe but i still love the movie till death XD

The movie's plot changes from the book's plot about halfway through, so both are really great and unique stories ^^
