Description
And here's the second costume that has been taking up my time recently! If you are not familiar with her, Cybelle DeHamphir is the leading lady of my novel, Dead Night. She is an immortal Assassin operating in London in the late 1800's.
So I've wanted to make this outfit for ages, but I've only recently plucked up the courage, as I wasn't able to get a pattern that looked how I wanted, so I had to design and draft the pattern completely from scratch. It still isn't perfect, and I would like to re-make it when I learn to make corsets from scratch, but baby steps....
The jacket is built on top of a reasonably cheap spiral boned corset. It had to be a cheap one as the design probably wouldn't have functioned as well if it had to be frequently unlaced. It's made of black satin and lined in a chocolate coloured lining fabric I just had lying around (I would like to make this red satin next time, and the outer material black brocade). The tails are trimmed with pleats and satin ribbon, with lace on a two layered bustle (I wear a small bustle pillow with it for shape) and the top is trimmed with lace and silver filigree points on the collar. I also whipped up the sash, which was in a chinese style brocade, as A. I love the fabric, and B. I like to imagine Cye has a sash like this around from her mercenary days.
The stakes are courtesy of a good friend of mine, the guns are from my alarming collection of replica/antique weaponry, and the shirt, boots and most of the jewellery were charity shop buys. The trousers are actually my work trousers...
The design of Cybelle's uniform is meant to aid her stealth and fighting ability. It's easily pulled around and disguised as a dress (If you read the short "More Than Meets the Eye" in the anthology when it comes out, you'll see her use it in action) but not as restricting as a dress, so she can run, fight, parkour around London like the badass she is without tripping over silly petticoats!
I would like to change a few things in the future, as the pattern took a lot of tweaking before I got something I liked, so it's a little rough around the edges. the bust needs cleaning up, the puff sleeves could do with a little more puff, and I hope to have an actual replica assassin brooch before the year is out. Anyway, if we get around to doing a trailer for Heart of Night, this is much closer to what Cye will look like, after last time. Of course, I wasn't allowed to carry my foil for this shoot as metal weapons are not allowed in the convention.
I just realised this was before I dyed my hair black XD Excuse that this version of Cybelle has purpley hair. I hope to obtain some green contacts and a replica of Scylla and Charybdis for future use of this costume.
Anyway, hope you like! ^_^

You're very welcome Awww haha, I bet. And patience too! XD Patience I probably don't have OTL XD I've tried sewing before, and I guess it wasn't for me (I'm almost completely left handed, so it's a complex story for me lol)
I bet I would You definitely should consider uploading it if you have time! I'd love to see it! <33

Definately patience xD That said, I think I can be a little impatient sometimes, but you just have to press on with it. it's always worth it in the end Ahh, it is harder to learn when you're left handed so I hear. We had a lady in our sewing class last term and she had to keep switching everything around
Hopefully ill have all the pictures soon. I'm working on a dress I want to have finished for Xmas. It's very Cybelle so hopefully I'll be able to put photos of it on dA

I probably wouldn't be too good at it :') Somebody once tried to teach me how to do it, and I sort of understood, but it was difficult.
I hope so! I'd love to see it <333

I guess different arts appeal to different people. It's certainly overwhelm first but I think those ho want enough o learn overcome it, though it's not for everyone
I'm really excited! The fabrics I found for it are beautiful, it's like a burgundy, silver and black brocade and has this really intricate floral and diamonds pattern!

I agree I've tried pretty much all art forms by now. I used to do theater in order to gain higher ranks of social skills, but once I achieved that, I quit doing it xD
That's awesome! I look forward to seeing it Your outfits are always so beautiful and well made

Ah, I love theatre! But I think I'm best behind the scenes haha!
Thanks *^.^* I hope to finish it soon but the bodice is slightly complicated so I'm taking my time.
