Description A bit of distraction from studying. My head still hurts from all those terms...

This is a new version of a picture from 2010. Because I just couldn't stand to look at it anymore, I almost felt compelled to make a new one. I cheated a bit though, as the old one was done in Tegaki, and this time, I used GIMP. It's just too much fun to try all the different brushes.

Still, how to you paint hair so that it looks somewhat good.

oh, awesome work.
I love especially the dynamic of the spell 'coming out' of the book and making the swirl, it gives a wonderful touch to the art piece. ( I have a thing for this kind of stuff ). the hair also looks great.

I believe you missed a bit in the pose/body structure, though.

Thank you! I'm really glad to hear that you like it.
The magic swirl was really fun to paint, although the transition from paper to spell was a bit of trouble at first, haha.

Regarding the last part of your comment: I thought about this for a bit, but I'm afraid that I'm not really sure what you mean. Could you perhaps elaborate?

But anyway, thank you so much for your comment!

you're very welcome.
please keep in mind I'm not pointing a mistake or saying that what you did look wrong. it's more of a suggestion.

it's too "static". and something else I noticed is that you didn't make the reflection of the spell in her skin/outfit.
especially the legs… when the character is using a spell book, it's really cool to play with the possible dynamic of the pose.  ( because except for dark magic, the other magics are related to energy and movement of the body in order to aim, control and launch it with full power. )

although I'm not sure if you had in mind the morph concept and this someway interfered in your posing.
then I can understand how a morph is not human and they probably use the spell in a different way and with a different sort of energy. if this is the case, don't mind much what I said about the pose.

Oh, please don't worry! Suggestions are very welcome, so thank you for pointing all of this out!

First thing - you're right about the light of the spell and how it should have been reflected by her clothing and such. I honestly forgot about this, and wouldn't have noticed it without you.

In regards of the pose: Her pose not being overly dynamic was intentional. In my opinion, Limstella doesn't make unnecessary moves and doesn't care about 'fanciness' or looks when acting (mostly because she's not human). It's actually very similair to what you were saying about morphs and them moving in a different way, and I was trying to convey that.
However, I do think now that I might have overdone it, haha. Despite everything I said, she does have to move quite a lot when casting a spell (just like you said), so her posture is indeed too stiff for that.

So thank you for your critique! I wouldn't have noticed these things without your help, so I'm really grateful for that! Thanks a lot!

no, you're right. I apologize, it was my mistake. I just realized we were talking about Limstella ( a morph ) and not a regular sage after coming up with the first part of my critique. they actually don't need the unnecessary movement because they probably use other sorts of energy to control and launch spells, since they already have a huge magic power stored in their constitution for being a morph.

well, take the suggestion for further drawings, then !
and you're very welcome.

It's alright. Sometimes, those smaller things won't come to mind immediately, so don't worry.
But you know, talking about the dynamics of casting spells really does make me want to draw someone who is not a morph and thus does make all those swirly movements you mentioned in an earlier comment, haha. So yeah, I'll definitely keep your words in mind in the future!

hmm someone very dynamic, let me see... Tormod ! haha...ok, ok, too much dynamic. he probably makes MORE movements than necessary.

since you seem to enjoy rekka no ken a lot, maybe Pent, Erk, Nino... there are many choices.

I'm planning to do a dark magic picture featuring Raigh/Ray from FE 6 when I get less busy.

(Argh, I'm so sorry for the ridiculously long wait!)

Haha, I agree with you - even though I don't know that much about Tormod, he sure seems very energetic! I can totally see him making more gestures than even neccessary. Although that might actually make it a bit easier to practise dynamics since you can exaggerate that aspect without making it seem too out of character.

And I love all of your other suggestions, too! Maybe I'll use them for future projects - especially in Pent's case it would be interesting to figure out how he moves.

Your plans sound great, though! Dark magic does have its own appeal, and adding a cool character like Raigh makes it even better, haha. I'd really love to see your interpretation of him and his magic, but I can understand that you want to wait with that until you have more time.

Taküüü ich mag die Haare! .3.
