Mood while drawing/reading this:
Sho felt the same sadness wash over him as he approached the site his mate and him had agreed on burying their lost pup. This time felt more difficult than the rest, he had come here with a purpose in mind and he was still preparing himself even if he knew he would never reach that level of acceptance. He was here to say goodbye.
The mound remained unchanged and he shifted the purple flowers he had brought while cleaning up the sight. Pup was keeping tabs on the little pup he had found that was growing like a weed. Ibid’s thick lug seemed to shift as he saw his saviour’s expression drop while he kneeled down beside the grave.
I’ve come back to you, little one… I’m sorry I didn’t bring mommy. Sho spoke softly to the mound of dirt as he placed the flowers, shutting his eyes tightly as a he concentrated on getting his words out.
He hadn’t wanted to do this, he hadn’t wanted to say goodbye, he hadn’t wanted to say ‘This was the end’ as it felt like he would be betraying his flesh and blood a second time. He had had his final moments, his time to make his peace yet this felt so difficult. He tore his gaze from the grave as he looked towards Pup and Ibid. The white wolf hadn’t seen these raw emotions until now and he tucked his tail in while keeping Ibid hidden behind a paw.
Mommy’s been very sad since you left. Sho continued his monologue with the grave, attempting his best to not allow the stubborn watering of his eyes to return. But I think we can both bring her joy now… To allow you to rest. You must have been so exhausted. Sho attempted to repress the pictures of the sick pup, how it had clung to life and fought the inevitable until it lost. It was too small, too weak to fight the sickness that caught it and twisted its life out. Sho focused on the task at hand as he inhaled sharply, fighting the tears that had so desperately wanted to be released from the sealed away vault of his heart.
I know now that Aippaq keeps you warm… That you may play among the field of stars. May you be born again into this world, my little one… Sho’s voice cracked once again as he rose from the dirt, too emotionally exhausted to clean off the grains of soil attached to his fur. Please do not feel we have replaced you… We never will. He referred to the little black pup sleeping soundly in the white wolf’s jaw. In a weird way, he didn’t feel the guilt he might have felt otherwise but… forgiven. As he turned back towards the trail he felt a solemn feeling in his chest still. This had been his funeral for his pup, his final words and him finally letting the poor trapped spirit free. I love you. He whispered as he turned his back on the grave for the final time.
