Amazing to see you're improvement! Man, I hope I can get myself to draw and improve that much in 5 years. I love how much more refined your new style is, and you can see how you have molded and changed that character throughout the years to his current image today, and might I say he looks AMAZING!

How do you upload your pencil and line drawings so that they come out so clean?  After you finish drawing, do you re-work in pen/in Photoshop?  I've been wanting to put my stuff on deviant art for little while now, but everything i try to scan in or upload comes out with a cruddy resolution.  Any advice would be appreciated!  Thanks, and keep up the great work!

The one on the left has been inked traditionally and had the blacking in of the pants and hair etc. done in photoshop.

The one on the right has been drawn in photoshop.

When you scan an image, make sure your scanner is set to 300dpi. Load it into photoshop and go to Image > Adjustments > Levels and then play around with until all the greys have turned to white and all the darker lines have turned to black.
Use the brush tool on a second layer (in case you stuff up) to clean out any other lines.

Make sure when you intend to upload a drawing, reduce the resolution to 72dpi (Image > Image Size).

Hope this helps you in your endeavours.

Your old style had a set formula that you followed. It works but it wont make you stand out. Your new stuff has a lot of potential and has a lot more accuracy in it. Keep refining it and you are well on your way to moving up in the world.

People not so familiar with art will say they like your old style better. But that is once again because you followed a formula. Don't take it harshly. The best ways are often the ones of trial and error and go against the grain. You can also see your improvement a lot more in some of your other drawings.

To be honest. I like the old style better. But that's just my side of the coin - no need to take it in to account, just saying it.

But on academic note: Your technique hasn't evolved much, you had quite nice and refined technical drawing ability 5 years ago. What I can see clearly tho is the change in style, it has taken radical new step to other direction, you have moved more away from eastern styles in to more "American comic" or Nu-European. You still haven't landed on each specifically, but it is clear to what is our new "orientation".
But back on technical. The fact that you use muted and calm coloring complements the newer style well, since your older inked style didn't really have space to let colors breathe.
Remember there is no shame on jumping between older and newer practices.

Will your guys please lay off Tiago about changing his style. He's an artist he's entitled to do whatever he pleases with his own work; it doesn't have to look typical assembly-line shounen jump comics, this is why there is such a lack of creativity in manga.
And if you cant see the technical improvements in his work, me and you, have to be looking at a different artist.

Every time he puts out a piece of art about his manga/comic(whatever) i see comments like yours, and honestly I'm tired of it. No offence.

I'm not even going to address some of what you said considering it's fallacious nature.

I've been following Tiago for years, literally one of the first people I "watched" on Deviant Art, what i said to to you is something I've been wanting to say for a while. I do apologize for anything that came off as dramatic or childish; I'm tired of seeing the same annoying comments like "I like your old style better, teehee!".
If you like his old style fine, but practice some degree of sensitivity people! Tiago is making a style thats fresh and new, which combines the realism of American/European comics with the dynamic flare, and attention to fashion of Japanese comics.
I don't want what Tiago is doing stifled by idiots who only see one style of art as aesthetically pleasing.

And his technique has evolved, his line weigh is much more painterly, It has a sketchy quality, his old line mirrored artist like Tite Kubo or Kishimoto. His poses are more naturalistic, and have a more energy.

I've always been a strong advocate for criticism, but not all opinions are valid, people seem to forget that(example, some people still believe the earth is flat. SEE: Flat Earth Society). Good day/night to you sir, and good luck with your artistic journey.

I like that you block me from replying to your comments so that it seemed that I gave in your superior knowledge of art or something equality stupid and self serving.

I am quite sure that that my comment was not attacking in any way. I just went trough the progress of change in academic fashion. And voiced my opinion.
If you opinion is that you do not like my opinion, then please, go cry to some one who respects such attitudes. I am quite sure that you are one of those people who down vote Criticism post as unfair because they do not reflect your opinions exactly.

There is a reason we are called critics, we criticize!

Also you clearly do not know what you are talking about when criticizing my opinion. He technique hasn't evolved that much, hes line art has the signature pressure and life lines as the old ones do. The flow of poses follow very much signature hes style.

Also... I am not saying anything about manga styles, I do not have the sufficient expertise or education on the field. I am only a mere bachelor of arts as my 2nd degree.

I agree. I will say I love your new style also, but there is just something about the old style that totally works for your characters. Both are awesome still!
