Description
For those that wonder how superheroes get their powers, it is fairly impossible without risking your life. Most superhero origins result from a scientist experimenting with chemical concoctions, stumbles into reactor cores, experimented on, struck by cars carrying toxic waste, arriving to Earth from an alien world, and a billion other ways. Although that could’ve been the idea for the Prime Seven, there is another more ideal path to becoming a superhero, and that is where the AntiKin come in.THE ANTIKIN
Originating from the now-destroyed planet Illumis, the AntiKin (or PLAZ: Psychokinetic Levitating Atomic Zoo-ling) are a race of semi-corporeal beings that originate, not from the planet itself, but rather the three moons orbiting the planet, each coloured on a specific aspect or two of the universe. The exact nature of the AntiKin is still under debate, but it is suggested that they evolved as mineral-based creatures in a highly radioactive environment. Nevertheless, they are also very powerful, equivalent to a floating nuclear genome bomb, but utilized in a way that makes them very intelligent, omnipotent, and being the very source of Superhero power.
The AntiKin were a rather new idea when I was working on MorphBoy’s story over the last 10+ years. Initially, his powers came from special crystals called Terranium, and his setting was in a far future Los Angeles, sometime in the 2300s. That idea had to be dropped. A idea before that was set on a prototype of Earthopolis, and his origins were rather underdeveloped. Other ideas included special tech to transform (similar to Ben 10), changing between Los Angeles and Cincinnati, and whether I included aliens or not. This was all before the concept of the AntiKin and ShadowNauts ever existed, so pre-2018.
Once 2018 came around, some ideas were brewing inside of my head regarding his true story. Finally, I came up with MorphBoy! The Last Superhero. However, it was initially a collection of superhero stories called The Defenders of Earth. I had to drop that. But in one cover I made of the attempted story, a spark of inspiration appeared.
This cover was made in the beginning of 2018, and MorphBoy’s design was a bit of a prototype. Also, his shapeshifting was under development, and a statement regarding slow-morphing in a previous post didn't exist in my 2018 brain. However, those spheres around the areas where he morphs became the very origin of the AntiKin.
It took me five years to fully develop the AntiKin’s design, and now seeing their true design, I am very proud of those five years.
Each AntiKin is composed of four asymmetrical spheres or blobs (the main “head” is a true sphere, while the others are more like ellipsoids—deformed spheres), each blob comprises of a specific body function, or multiple body functions. The head contains the brain (2 lobes in Green, 5 lobes in Orange, and 7 lobes in Blue), a cyclopean eye with an almost 2D mouth, and the vocal cords (used to speak in Ancient AntiKinese/metallic warbling). The second blob contains the lungs and heart, the third contains the digestive tract, and the fourth contains the urinary and reproductive organs (AntiKins are a male/female race, and their method of reproduction is more based on single-cell organisms via mitosis. Two opposite sexes merge into one body consisting of five spheres, before separating back into the two opposites, with the fifth sphere becoming the couple’s offspring, between 1-15 AntiKin children. Each one is born intelligent, but this intelligence varies between individuals.) A body part that they keep hidden most of the time are two hands that they use to carry objects. They keep them hidden in the second sphere, as a meta-ball (the spheres remould into the AntiKin flesh, and become their own spheres when in use.) Although they are higher beings with telepathy, they do use their hands as a form of communication.
Each AntiKin has a name, and though we have complex names because of our bloodlines, AntiKin names are more simple than complex. They have first, middle, and last names, but each name is limited to 2-4 letters. 5 lettered-names are rare, but nonetheless something the AntiKin are okay with. Some examples of names are: Et, Sai, Fy, Mat, Li, Dop, Mai, Pym. Each name is random, but comprises of a single syllable or two syllables. Sometimes, they can be called as their name and their species: Li PLAZ, Et AntiKin.
The AntiKin are not a divided race, for the concept of race does not exist on their world. Each colour in an AntiKin is not a racial concept, but rather the concept of the powers each AntiKin contains. In Green AntiKin, the powers of the Earth and the life that sprouts from its volcanic ashes. In Blue AntiKin, the powers of air and water, from the raging seas to the fury of a tornado, both combined to give this AntiKin full control of the weather. In Orange AntiKin, the powers of fire and energy, from the charges between atomic particles, to the fiery core of a star. Together these beings comprise of the universe’s very own Elementals, and they are a very rare race, with less than 10,000 individuals in the universe, compared to the billions of other species across the cosmos.
Besides containing the ability to control the elements, the AntiKin are also capable of using the radiation they contain to heal injured animals or sapient beings. This radiation, Delta Radiation, is a different form of energy compared to the energy we know of on Earth. It regenerates wounds, instead of making them worse. One could say that it isn’t radiation, but rather a form of mystical energy, leaked out from one dimension into another. The debate continues, but that is a belief.
A part of their bodies that becomes useful to humans are when an AntiKin sheds its outer skin. AntiKin do not have the same kind of waste as we do. Instead, it gathers on their surface as a layer of minerals that is processed from their bodies. When shed, it resembles the classic radioactive goo found in most cartoon shows. But when observing it close up, it is a series of elements from their homeworld that one could use to build a new civilization. Separating these elements is not easy, and requires an expert to do so. But in the end, the elements are presented: Delta I, a water-like mercury substance that is also non-toxic; Delta II, a liquid fire, as some call it; Delta IV, a pile of peat moss laden with green emerald-like crystals filled with fertilizer; Delta VI and VII, comprised of negative and positively-charged solid shadow respectively; and finally, Delta VIII, a green ooze which when smelted can be turned into a semi-indestructible chrome metal called Deltanium, which the humans use to build their cities out of.
WARNING: Do not cross these elements in their natural form! Each element has control over the world around them, and can result in natural disasters (eg; Delta II and Delta IV can combine to create a new volcano out of nowhere, boring down to the Earth’s lower mantle to create a hotspot to feed the magma chamber.)
One most important ability all AntiKin are capable of is Upgrading Lesser Beings. They have the power, when met with an individual who is threatened to extinction, to give that individual the ability to fight back and reclaim its species. Initially, in previous drafts, the AntiKin do this with the Earth’s dinosaurs, but fail to when the asteroid hits. But I’m deciding to drop this for time-consuming reasons. Instead, the AntiKin proceed with this power on their old world, try it out with Earth’s Ice Age animals, and then proceed with the concept of superhumans. They are the source of superhero powers, and though they have the power of the elements, that doesn’t mean it’s just the elements they put into a superhero. Instead, they take aspects of those elements (Earth —> Tectonic Plates —> Lava Manipulation) or rather subcategories, and give them to humans as superpowers. Although this creates a superhuman, it doesn’t necessarily create a superhero. That’s up to the user to decide if he or she uses their powers for good or evil.
Another piece of anatomical studies I forgot to mention are the eyes and mouths. Initially, an AntiKin was supposed to be faceless, with a reflection of light always present on their heads. However, I decided to use the reflection idea as a 2D cyclopean eye and mouth (they can eat ordinary food with their mouths). When working on drafts for the story, I also had the idea of creating an AntiKin model in Blender to experiment with how an AntiKin moves. Unfortunately, I never got around to that, I am not a 3D artist with characters, nor are there any tutorials for such a character as animated above. (What I am capable of is 2D animation, though with limited potential.) For now, the AntiKin are in comic-form, unless otherwise.
Although the AntiKin can fly, they also have the power of telekinesis, being able to lift or carry items millions of times their own weight. And finally, their most important power is telepathy—their ability to speak with their minds, and this is the primary power the AntiKin use when communicating with Earth creatures, as their mouths and vocal cords are too advanced for humans to understand. (For context of language, it is composed of metallic warbling. A better inspiration is rather from WALL-E, with EVE’s robotic warbling and sounds. That is how the AntiKin speak physically, while they speak like a human mentally.)
After their arrival to Earth, the AntiKin rose from a population of 20, to a population of over 7,500. They’re not like the human race with its climbing population, and they’re more like how humans were before the Second World War’s Baby Boom. That will change after the Purple Eclipse’s defeat.
Oh, and one more thing! When caught in a world-ending catastrophe (super-volcano, ice age, nuclear war, etc.), they have the ability to hibernate as solid polished spheres of pure gemstone (star sapphire, emerald, and topaz). Most of their powers are kept inside, with little effect on the world around them. To reawaken from their sleep, they need the presence of liquid water (Blue AntiKin), fertile soil (Green AntiKin), or the flame of either a campfire or a forest fire (Orange AntiKin). It won’t be until Hubert Stephen finds them that he accidentally reawakens the AntiKin.
Anyways, that is all for this post! Up Next will be the race of transcendental demigods, The ShadowNauts, starting with the baddest of them all. Have a good day/night!
