Description The final shot (number 9) from underneath the interchange of highways 5 and 50 in Hull. This would be the opposite view of Welcome to the Fields . Please support graffiti [as opposed to vandalism] in free spaces.

Vertical panorama made from 2 3-shot HDRs. Tone mapped, and some color removed and curve work to take much of the blueness out.

Full view recommended for better detail. Thanks for your support.

Minimal tone mapping does rock! Just enough to bring out those small details. No point in turning a really nice shot into a cartoon. Thanks a bunch friend!

Lovely! A fine display of graffiti-art. And I love the purpose behind it too, promoting it as art itself and not as tasteless vandalism. :]

Might I feature this in my journal? 8D

Not yet, sadly....We've had a week full of -20c temperatures and bad snow. It's supposed to be a little warmer this weekend and most of my midterms are done so I'll try to get out there. Maybe....*maybe* it won't be snow covered. I'll keep you up to speed though.

This is good, but it's missing a little colour compared to your other ones! awsome perspective tho!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TallJohn In reply to gsuk1 [2007-11-30 02:34:17 +0000 UTC]

Yeah. The lack of color is on purpose. I wanted a little more emphasis on the brighter side of the scene. I felt it was appropriate given the darkness of the rest of the series. Plus the reduced color gave a more crisp look. Thanks a million buddy!

Is it wrong that this photo makes me think "I'm home"? I guess I'm just a city girl.

I love it. But think how beautiful places like this would be if artists were less scared of getting caught by the police.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TallJohn In reply to madlilnerd [2007-11-30 02:38:39 +0000 UTC]

Thanks a bunch. Yeah...What bugs me more aren't the artists who're shy to do their art, but the laws preventing them from doing it. The problem is that the terms 'graffiti' and 'vandalism', in a legal sense, are used synonymously. People don't seem to understand the fundamental difference between the two.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

madlilnerd In reply to TallJohn [2007-11-30 17:37:18 +0000 UTC]

True. Vandalism is disgusting; I just don't understand people who smash up park benches and then complain about taxes! And I wish rail companies would leave the big colourful tags up along the line, I pay enough for my ticket without paying for people to blast off someone's artwork
I like clever, witty graffiti- an intelligent voice on the street, or just messages that have a meaning, other than someone's name.
Down the middle of your photo at the bottom, does it say "don't hate"?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TallJohn In reply to madlilnerd [2007-12-08 19:14:09 +0000 UTC]

Sure does. And yeah, it's a sad waste when these things are removed. Believe me when I say, however, that it's worse here in Canada and the US than in the UK. Here in Ottawa, it's the grayest city known to man, because people absolutely hate spray paint in all its forms.
