Description
Y'all asked, so here it is. This is a super basic intro to how I map out a face. This isn't the be-all, end-all way to do it, but it's the way I've found to be easiest.Extra notes:
- The distance between the two eyes is about one eye. A good trick is to draw lines on either side of the nostrils of the nose to orient where the eyes should go.
- The easiest way to draw an eye is to draw the bone structure. Reference a photo of a skull to start with. Draw in a circle, find the midpoint, and use that to figure out where you want your character to be looking.
- Faces come in a tone of different shapes and sizes, and jawlines can be higher or lower based on the shape of the skull.
- For lips, the philtrum (that dip in your face below your nose) can be useful for mapping out the upper lip's shape.
- Noses come in different shapes and sizes, so reference as needed.
- If all else fails, break down every feature into its most basic shapes and go from there.
