To carry ~Sturmensky 's theory a little farther, I wonder if Koro has suddenly realized just how much of his life has slipped through his fingers from his "sheltered" life in Tarsin City?  The turn around people (and Tikedi by extension) can make from a single event can be staggering to see.

Case in point, one individual that was forced on to my unit my first tour.  To put it as politely as possible, he was a total screw-up, moved from one unit to another because no one wanted him around for very long.  There was every good possibility he'd have been kicked out of the Corp shortly anyway.  The first time we got into a gunfight, he turned into a different person.  Not a savage, monster, blood thirsty what have you, but a determined individual that had, according to him, finally come up for air and seen how much of his life he'd wasted up to that point.  Amazing what a "near death experience" can do for you.

Koro suddenly discovering our flying city bus could have made a light snack of him forced him to come up for air.  Is he going to turn into a prat?  I don't think so, he loves Eika far and away with all his heart.

So "The Hundred" have become "The Fifty", it won't matter, The Fifty are even now more determined after having seen the dangers involved.  Hopefully the "Other Fifty" made it back home safely.

I really like the subtlety of your crayon pencils, Eika and Koro are a very handsome couple!

That is pretty much exactly what I was going for, and that's a great anecdote to back it up. This is not Koro's natural element in the slightest. He is Bilbo Baggins and he misses his hobbit hole, but he's halfway through, things have gotten tough, and he said he'd get through it. He promised Eika he'd get through it, yet. So instead of getting scared, he's opting to get determined until he finds a new hobbit hole to settle down in.

No doubt that if there's more trouble, he might need to rally his courage again a time or two, but he's likely to succeed and I think Eika knows that now. He'll just need a very long, very relaxing vacation at the end where no one speaks of the past madness ever again.

(All right, I may or may not be relating rather strongly with Koro lately, even though it's not bus-sized lizards I'm facing; just life being a butt. XP )

Things do seem rather tense for our couple here. It's nice to see Eika trying to forcibly put Koro before herself rather than simply letting it be the other way around.

I do have to wonder though: what drove him to decide in favor of carrying on? It's tempting to say that he's simply putting Eika before himself again, but part of me isn't entirely certain that's the whole story.

That's part of what drives Koro, definitely. Eika does ruin his sense of self-preservation and his natural comfort-seeking a little bit, but it's also a part of his personality even without her. I'm kind of the same way as Koro. I try to keep things simple in my life, but sometimes I find myself in a rough spot where things aren't simple at all and I could still scamper back to safety... but I've already made it this far, I knew the road was going to get bumpy, and now that it has (albeit bumpier than anticipated), I'd feel a little ridiculous backing out considering I said I'd be cool with it. That's when the stubborn streak comes out and I plow through until I get to the end and find a comfortable spot again and then pretend nothing happened back there.

This is probably the biggest rough patch that Koro has ever been in (and hopefully ever will be in) and it must have surprised the hell out of Eika that he still can whip out that stubborn streak.

*Whuff!*

Tensions certainly feel very high between them

I'm a little surprised he did choose to carry on... of course, if he had then I suppose this wouldn't be a tale told by Oros would it

When you get down to it, yeah, that's the most basic reason. I'd have a lot of explaining to do if they turned around. XD It's also that Koro is one of those people who, once he sets his mind on doing something, even if it makes him extremely uncomfortable, he sees it through (probably up until the point where maybe it's going to get him killed, and then he'd maybe consider high-tailing it the other direction, depending on what's on the line). He got himself into this, and he's going to get it done, damnnit.

Er, especially when Eika's involved, of course. I can't deny that one.

That sounds a lot like I can be sometimes.

You know what makes a great adventure right?  Making a bad decision and sticking with it!!!

It's ironic that Gessick is actually much closer to this fabled forest than Oros.

It is, somewhat. In a way, the would-be Orosians get an opportunity to try their hand at what the Gessickans had a clear shot and failed at already.
