Heh, I undestand your point. I personally like this new D and P series because I feel that battles are closer to the game rules (and I pretty much watch only the battle episodes and those which has my fave pokemon). I mean, rhydon's horn actually collects electricity this time. And Paul is the first actualy interesting human character.

But I must say the old times had many awesome episodes (and I do miss Misty) but it had its bad times... (pikachu knocking out marowak with one thunderbolt?!)

Heh, truth be told, I havn't seen many of the battles so I wouldn't know. But I think the whole beauty contest thing is rediculous, and since that takes up most of the plot I lost interrest a long time ago. Some battle details may be more accurate, but some clearly lack. I mean come on, Ash's Pikachu should be at least on level 80 now, and he got beaten by Paul. I admit that Paul seems to be an interresting chara, though I havn't really seen much of him personally. Could you mayben recomend me an ep where he is the main focus and one gets to see some actual depth to the series? Anyway Paul may be talented, but he is still a beginner, and should have never been able to even get close to beating Pikachu. Also I just don't like the drawing style, it's too, I dunno "harsh"? I can't explain it, but it's not as soft and flowing as the old seasons.

I can think of quite a few ways to make the show better. For one it would have been so much better if they had ended Master Quest with an epilogue (kinda like the one in Digimon Zero Two but a lot more satisfying) like we see Ash ten years later, not nessicarily a Pokemon Master, but a high standing trainer with a good carreer. Jessie and James finally quit TR, finally became a couple, and became quite wealthy by doing an actual job that benifitted from their talents. Misty married Ash, and did some sort of work with water Pokemon, Brock married Suzie (yes I seriously think that she is perfect for him), Gary didn't become a scientist but aomething more suting for him. Give the series a conclusion, and most importantly, give the comic relief villains a rest. (Yes I HATE comic relief viallains, especailly ones who I feel sorry for but the writers will never give the time of day! Just let them off the hook for cookies' sake!)

Then they could start out the new season with a whole new plot, in a whole new world, with completely new charas. They could have made the drawing style a bit less annoying and stated the Advanced series and onwards as AU from the original. Like Digimon. All seasons except the first two are AU from each other, and come up with new charas and plots every time. It has been made clear that they all take place in different dimensions. That would have worked for Pokemon too. Also, no one said Pikachu has to be the main Pokemon. It was the main one for the first four seasons, and they could have gotten a new one for the new seasons if they had cut Ash. I personally would have found it much more enjoyable to watch DP if Dawn alone was the main chara, with Pual as the second and HER rival not Ash's.

Hey, you've stated many times that Gold, Silver, Crystal were your fav games.

Well on that note I've recnetly found a fanfic that is a kind of sequal thing to the games. It takes place in that world a few years after the events in GSC. Many mentions of the Yellow Ash beating TR and the main chara from GSC beating them in Johto.

The main chara, Aurora, dreams of becoming a Dragon Master like idol, clair. On her 11th birthday she sets of with the hopes of becoming Claire's aprentice. For her birtday she got a Spearow from her parents and he was stated to be a "bad mon", and her father told her he wouldn't get her very far. Thinking that she was given a weak Pokemon like a Caterpie or some other low level Pokemon, that would need a lot of training before it would be able to win battles easily, she is quite surprised to find that it's actually a "hand me down" Spearow, who was abused by his previos trainer. As she slowly gains his trust they set off towards Blackthorn. Along the way they meet and befriend Kurt's granddaughter Liane, who dreams of being a Pokemon researcher like her father. They soon encounter Team Rocket, who are planning to rise to power again, after their deafeat by a meere boy years ago. Leading them all is Giovanni's nephew, Ember. But the mysterious boy is a lot more than just the Rocket boss' nephew, as Aurora will soon discover.
When Claire refuses to take Aurora in as an aprentice, Aurora sets out to collect all the badges in an attempt to prove herself to Claire, but little does she know, that her idol is not to be trusted, and soon Aurora's life is in grave danger.

That's the summary I could come up with, (I like writing summarys ) the fic is called Dragon Master, and it's written by the amazing Silvormoon, who won best author in The Sushi Monster's Digimon fanfiction awards. Yes she has also written many Digimon fics along with her two Dragon Master sequals and a flood of YuGiOh, YuGiOhGX, Power Rangers and possibly a few other categories of fics.

Dragon Master has the whole feel and atmosphere of the old games, and doesn't really have anything in common with the anime. As in the games Team Rocket does kill, torture and even experriment on Pokemon, bringing in a seriousness that that few Pokemon stories can match. It really is a must read for any Pokemon fan, who apreciates the written word as much as the games and anime. [link]


Also 's fanfic The Blind Alley, is also really good. I've never seen anything quite like it. It's AU after the Orange Island season, and Ash is 17, but there are many flashbacks throughout the story to when he was younger.

Summary: A few years ago the balance of the Pokemon world was shifted and people bacame more "mortal". They could actually get hurt more easily, and when wild Pokemon started suddenly attacking people for no apparent reason, people started dieing. Pokemon training is becoming less popular and the number of new trainers is dwindeling. Ash Ketchum, 17 years old and one of the few really serious around, has finally returned to Kanto after years of travelling on his own. Plaigued by very realistic nightmares of being killed by a strange frightening Pokemon, and a painful past threatening to catch up with him at any moment, Ash travels through the world with only his Pokemon as company. When an old friend bumps into him by coincidence, running from his past is about to get a lot more difficult. As the story progresses secrets are revialed, but so many more arise. For Ash Ketchum, secrets, lies, pain and death have been a part of his life for longer than he cares to remember. But waht happens when it's no longer just his life on the line, but the lives of those he holds dear as well. With a new criminal organization rising to power, a price on his head, and a family secret that could get people killed, Ash and his friends are in for one hell of a ride.

Also the Pokemon are portrayed in an almost RD like way, in that we get to know what they have to say about things, getting things from both Pokemon and human POV.
