Description
Check it out here! This is not a tutorial about how to draw any one animal. It is a tutorial about how to teach yourself to draw any animal. It takes you through the steps I go through when learning about a new animal. If you struggle with forms and volume, this tutorial will hopefully be helpful for you!
It takes you all the way from skeleton to finish.
Knowledge of photoshop is NOT necessary for this tutorial. All the concepts can be executed in any program, or on paper!
If you have any questions, as always let me know in the comments and I will try to answer asap

Haha I had to get this, even with poor wallet... But this makes for so many possible beautiful christmas portraits if I manage to learn it soon enough Q.Q
Love this so far from what I've seen! I find the explanation of reasoning as to why a certain thing leaves that impression on the viewer and all that way more helpful than just watching tutorials on Youtube where you're like "Uh, okay, so this is when I use that brush..." and you just don't memorize it in the end cause it has no context...
Anyway, will try my best x <3

It's great, but I'm still having trouble with picking/placing colours in Photoshop :c
In SAI I have various brushes that blend together the original colours with the "atmospheric" ones (like this: prntscr.com/hewx4c ) aka the ones not making the painting look boring
while in PS (which I've never used much before although I do need it now for your tutorial) I don't even know how to get the brushes to blend really x.x
I'm also kinda missing this, that you have and are using: prntscr.com/hewxym When I take "Color" in my options in, I only get a terrible bar :c I've tried googling it, but only found "it's a mod/addon".. I'm using PS CS6, if you have any idea how to change mine ( prntscr.com/hewzrl )
Haha sorry for bothering <3 But I really want to understand this, as it finally seems like something I NEED to learn (aka sketches that still look amazing while not taking at least 20 hours x.x)
Thank you so much in advance

The color options are under the 3 little white lines in the upper right corner of your color box. Change it from HSB sliders to Hue cube.
As for the brushes, you should try the mixer brush tool in PS. There are some cool tutorials on youtube that show you how to use it. It involves mixing the surrounding colors

I almost literally started sobbing when you showed what you do instead of circles. I have -never- been able to use circles effectively to build an animal and it's given me such a mental boost.
At some point I'll actually utilize these concepts and start drawing things, but I 100% recommend this to all of the people ever that have had issues with those god damn circles they have in 90% of tutorials and drawing books.

I've always had troubles with the circles too, especially trying the perspective right and such is a true pain. May I ask you if this guide from Tamberella also includes perspective/ getting the proportions right in different poses and angles?

I would say it does. It wasn't a huge focus or gone on about in length I don't think, but it was definitely touched upon as she converted skeleton to shape, and skeletons/skulls were outlined over several different perspectives, emphasizing the relationship between the bones versus knowing all the bones scientifically.
That being said, I finished it a couple days ago and watched it over the span of a couple days so I would have to go back to really see how much was said about perspective.

Thank you so much for explaining! It all sounds very promising. I was at first doubting to get it, but now that I've heard this I made up my mind. It sounds like the kind of guide that could be incredibly useful for me, so I'll definitely be getting it. Thank you!

Hmm, just looking at the preview makes me realize how many steps
I skip. I need to study all these bones and muscles instead of just
guessing! Thanks for posting
