this is amazing! best Sarah as the Goblin Queen picture i've ever seen! the background's not bad. i absolutely love her outfit.

Thank you! I myself am not very happy with it... I wanted her coming down into the throne room, smoky skirt, etc....didn't turn out that way so I finally gave up.

The background doesn't suck, it just looks a little disconnected.
The most obvious way is the lettering. The hollow bits of the letters don't have the background in them, making it look oddly slapped on, and totally undeserving of a piece as awesome as this.
Secondly, the light sources on the background need to be reflected a little more on her dress. They would light the edges, and make her face a more in shadow. The light would simply creep around the edges of her figure and the dress, and the half shadow would fall a little further in.
But an awesome improvement, definitely!

when you reversed the text from black to white to show against the dark b/g you made... you didnt clear the voids in the letters... you should of re typed your text as white type...
plus you dont need the 'a' after perhaps

It's cool but doesn't go. I think I like the castle idea better for it. I'm just not great with doing backgrounds in general so I tried to take the easy way out. XP

just remember to remove the text off your figure image before you add the back ground and than retype it to the finish piece... its easier than voiding all the insides of letters

The background is overwhelmingly bright . . . maybe if it was taken down a few shades to muted hues like her dress? Then her skin would really POP. Either way, she and the owl look gorgeous!
