Description tutorials about drawing and stuff, I decided I would give it a go ^^

This is a tutorial, covering the basic stuff of drawing...well technically characters mostly
I will make some additional tutorials in the future too. Depends, if you guys would want me to put some together though or leave it

Well let me know what you think
I hope it is informative and useful ^^ (Maybe not for hardcore artists but for beginners mostly )

Nice. I learned alot from this. Not that I don't know how to draw already. But it's always good to be reminded of basics like these

Hehe thanks ^^
Glad that it was useful :3
Planning to make other tutorials like this, covering different areas on the body or shading ect. (traditional perspective mostly, since I'm still learing the tablet xD)

Hehhe you are more than welcome ^^
I want to make other tutorials as well, covering the whole body, since as far as I see, body tutorials are not that common in DA
Besides, I would like to help begginners
Though I have my final exam soon, so I guess it will take some time to do them

Great tutorial! <3 But I just wanted to let you know there is a typo in the heading for step 1 "Drawig an actual character: ".

I applaud people who try to teach others their art. You're a credit to society!

Tanathiel In reply to Ashlocke [2010-05-24 19:16:54 +0000 UTC]

Actually I spotted about.. 3-4 mistype or added letter xD But thanks for the info ^^ I will "recycle" it soon

I don't know... I like to teach drawing :3 Originally I started off as an art teacher, but since the education system in my country is garbage and I would go insane after a year or two, I guess I enjoy this kind of tutorial making more Though teaching living people is really nice too ^^
Thanks

A great tutorial. Although I'm not quite sure what you mean about using one type of pencil for a picture. Do you mean for sketching out the lines before you begin? I'm looking forward to further explanation.

Tanathiel In reply to CatapultedCarcass [2010-05-24 15:27:36 +0000 UTC]

Thanks

Actually, I dont wanted to explain it in the tutorial further since I want to make one about pencil drawing
Anyways:
What I ment is, that when drawing a picture, you should use mostly 1x type (like B2 or B4, ect.)of pencil for the whole work or maybe a few others that are close to it (one or two step --> for B2: B1, HB, B3, B4) since the difference in the black color depth and texture is so big (like if I drawn with a B3 and make shades with B8) that it makes the picture really strange and not great looking
Maybe if you blend it together with your finger or a whool, but still, even in that case you can see that it made a different texture + color depth on the paper.

Thats all ^^
It would be easier to show it with actual scans and stuff, but I'm not there yet

CatapultedCarcass In reply to Tanathiel [2010-05-24 22:58:15 +0000 UTC]

I don't smudge at all, and I normally draw with a light pencil, say 2H, a medium, HB, and a dark one say 4B.
I blend them using pressure and it never looks out of place, I wouldn't suggest anyone to do it any other way.

Tanathiel In reply to CatapultedCarcass [2010-05-25 09:01:38 +0000 UTC]

Hm, usually I find the difference of texture more out of place when I use the more softer pencils (meaning B4+)with the other pencils. B4 is at a margin, since it is not too soft, I like to use it in my works too (actually thats the only one I like to use from the soft ones The softer ones got a feeling that I'm painting not drawing lol xD)
But perhaps this is only me and others can solve this issue
Though as a note, my teachers also said that they advise to use one type at a time for a drawing

Actually I can show you what I mean
I have an older drawing uploaded here with that issue (I used totally different pencils for that work: HB, B2, B6, B8 xD):

I guess you can see what I mean

CatapultedCarcass In reply to Tanathiel [2010-05-25 22:21:59 +0000 UTC]

I'd say the drawing is good apart from the cape because you didn't delve enough into darker tones. With all due respect it goes against your point because what that needed was a heavier pencil. Grain from heavier pencils can be easily smoothed out with a going over from lighter pencils, so texture is never a problem. If it doesn't look right, you havn't build up enough of a layer.
I'm trying not to sound like an asshole here, but I am adamant that your teachers are wrong, unless they intended to simplify the process for beginners. Otherwise, you shouldn't be afraid to use as many different weights of pencil as you can - contrast in the real world goes from black through to white, why should a drawing be any different?

Tanathiel In reply to CatapultedCarcass [2010-05-26 08:53:33 +0000 UTC]

Actually good point
Well it seems I can always learn something new every day ^^
Haven't tried that out actually (yet) but since it is working for you, I guess I should give it a try

About the teachers: yea, most likely they simplified the methold for beginners Though funny, because they don't really teach any realy technique or trick you could use :/
It was a bit dissappointing that I had to figure out all the stuff on my own -_-"

CatapultedCarcass In reply to Tanathiel [2010-05-26 12:08:42 +0000 UTC]

Yeah I only ever had one teacher in school that I felt had things to teach me, and I had a few.
But do have a crack at it, it's all about pressures and blending, knowing the ranges of your pencils and overlapping layers to reach dark and light tones seamlessly.

Gondoltam ide is megteszi lol ^^

Amúgy köszi

Indeed ^^
Actually I got questions mostly on different body parts (like the hand, face, feet, ect.), so most likely I will do those too in the near future
But I think a base info is good for starters
