Thankyou - I use Gimp to make 512x512 gif animations.

Which part, the fractal, the animation or both?
The fractal is generated using Apophysis and there are numerous tutorials available.
Try [link] as a starting point.
The animation is generated using my own script and is available together with a walkthrough in my resources folder of my gallery.
I warn you though its very easy to get hooked

Both. I really like creating a variety of different kinds of art, and I would love to add fractal animation to my repertoire.

No problem, thats exactly how I started, seeing other people's work and wanting to try it myself.
There are a number of fractal design programs, some with the option to create animations built-in.
Others need a little help to generate the individual frames, hence my script.
The programs can seem a little daunting at first but if you follow tutorials and 'experiment' you will soon be creating some of your own designs.
Personally the ones I used most, in no particular order, are Apophysis, Incendia and Mandelbulb3D.
All 3 of these are free to download and have some excellent tutorials on how to generate fractals and animations.
If you need help just send me a note and I'll see if I can assist or point you in the right direction

DO the programs cost anything? (That's a big factor)

The programs I mentioned are all free, although you can make donations.
Simply google them if you can't find links in DeviantArt.
Failing that I can send you links.
I also recommend Gimp if you don't have anything to make animated gif image files with (again free).

Nice... this one's really stellar. It looks like it's higher quality, maybe it has more frames than some of your previous uploads.
I'm always curious about scripts!
Especially scripts that move flames.

Thanks, I tend to use 72 frames for a full rotating gif which gives a 5 degree change in each frame.
For the zoom in/out I tend to go with 10 to 15 frames each, depending on zoom levels.
The render qualitity is the same as my others, I think it may be Gimp at fault as it tends to prefer this type of color gradient.
I do tend to re-index the palette in Gimp as it tends to do strange things otherwise.
I'm the same with scripts, I guess its my inquisitive nature

So you use Apophymator just for a rotation cycle?
I used to write scripts that do rotations without morphs, but I haven't used them much lately.
I have some for pitch & yaw alone too.
I forgot I did a lot of these, but here's one from early 3D hack era: [link]
I was using photobucket before I joined YT... there are some other anims in my album there, but nothing particularly compelling. "Time flies" is kind of interesting but that was based on a script from a DA user named "Git" I think, and the script named "Real Time Toy", or something close.
... I don't know about Gimp, but I really like the "antique" tint of this anim!

I use Apophymator for rendering the frames when doing a rotation.
I use it more for fill-in frames when doing morphs/color changes such as the gnarl anims.
My scripts are pretty basic for changing pitch/yaw although I am working on a figure-eight rotate that focuses on a single point in space....
Yea I have the Real Time Toy script some-where, I was after a script that showed how to pick up date/time, wanted to use timestamp as the flame name.
[link] shows what happens with Gimp if you forget to re-index the color. Its a bit like a photo-copy filter.
I have started to use VirtualDub for YT

A figure 8 will be interesting to see.
I can remember trying that but it was too long ago for me to remember the outcome.
... Interesting result from Gimp!
Probably more interesting would be to get primary frame results like that from Apo.
I see anims with non-black backgrounds less frequently, but I find they are often very attractive.
I think the Time Toy script is great and I believe I also learned some things about using time functions from it.
