Description If you want to learn more about the history of penicillin and take a break from whatever you're doing: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_…
That covers penicillin from its discovery to its first applications. The first person to be treated with it was in 1941, and Oxford university is proud of it: www.acs.org/education/whatisch… .
As for egyptology, here is the history of the field: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Egyptolo…
Don't ever use a time machine.

This is a great idea. I can’t believe I didn’t think of  it before!

Don’t beat yourself up for it! It was quite the mental leap from “wouldn’t it be nice to have a time machine, given that we’re egyptologists who have to work with highly uncertain historical texts” to “maybe we could use that time machine we bought at a garage sale that one time and that’s been collecting dust in the attic since.”

What a mental leap indeed!  It’s not like this was a low-hanging fruit idea or anything!

Let’s stop being excessively ironic and go back in time!

What could possibly go wrong?

I know right? Name one time sci-fi demonstrated time machines could horribly backfire.

Here we go! I’m going to click the “go back in time” button!

Wait a second—is there a “go forward in time” button? I don’t want to get stuck in the past.

Seems like a problem for our future—er, past—selves, no?

I’d still prefer we—

*click*

Did you just click the button?!?  And… where are we?

Egypt! But the real question isn’t “where” but “when”. And also… “what body”? Why do I feel so…. Small and, ah, graceful? Pshah, there’s there’s hair in my face!

Ah! Your voice! gasp* My voice! And… we have breasts!

We’re wearing skirts! Lemme check underneath to see if—eep!—yeah, we have a problem.

So it’s thaaaat type of time machine. No wonder it cost just 12 bucks. What a scam. My working theory is that we’ve switched consciousness with two randomly picked individuals from this time and place… you plugged in the late 1920s, right?

Yes, and thank god; imagine if we’d picked  ancient times! At least penicillin has been discovered already by now!

John! I’ve located our wives! Out shopping for egyptian skirts or some other girl thing, I wager! Ladies, we were looking everywhere for you! John even got a little cut after cutting a rose for you, Celia, and we were hoping you could treat it with alcohol before he dies of a generalized pulmonary infection or something!

Right. Penicillin wasn’t used to treat infections until 1941.

Um, “Celia”, I think we have more pressing problems right now. There’s only one button on this machine, and I believe that vague gesturing and incessant hollering on the part of these two hunks suggests we are to accompany them back to our hotel room and, um, perform marital duties.

*sigh*  We just had to become tourists’ wives. No! Wait, don’t kiss me you bru—
