Description
Shortly after the juvenile ducks left their mother in late summer, one of them injured its right foot somehow. It had a tough time walking on land, and had to keep the leg tucked up under its wing whenever it went swimming. I fed this injured duck more often than the others, and it developed a strong liking to me. While the other ducks would swim or waddle away whenever I came around, this duck would approach me, waiting for food. The duck eventually recovered, but with a slightly crooked toe. When it began to develop red feathers on its chest, a sign that it was male, I named him Red. Being December, he and his siblings have almost certainly flown south by now.
