Quite interesting...I feel as if I am looking at a beautiful futuristic schematic of some device or invention that I can't begin to understand.

I love this! It feels like crop circles, outerspace, cells, and a spirograph gone crazy. 
You mentioned needing a good pen... Since you enjoy working with pencils, I suggest trying felt tipped pens first ... they have a more predictable flow than gel rollers, which tend to cake up during a larger drawing. (It seems they are specifically designed for the constant changes of direction when writing ... and artists tend to roll in a single direction longer, causing ink build-up on the ball ... and blots.) I love my copic multiliners, which I'm pretty sure art stores keep in stock on your side of the universe also. However, the average rollerball is capable of lighter lines for shading once you figure out the drag characteristics of the particular pen in hand.

Have you thought about doing a coloured version perhaps? I think that could look really good as well

You're right it would be great fun to make a colour version! If I ever get time it's definitely on my list - I already made a start converting it into an editable file but it'll take ages which is my own fault for making it so complicated

Try to scan your pic in black and white unless you're trying to see the colors of your pencil.

this is so beautiful and the pencil makes it
all soft and velvety.
i use these cheap japanese pens called pilot G-Tec-C4,
a 0.4 so quite fine and they last a long time :]
