Description Water drop on a DVD. Was experimenting with different light settings. I found it astonishingly hard to find the right focus. Therefore the photo is not edited (besides being framed and texted upon that is)

Hahaha,

And here we are again, doing the same thing and you beating me to it. In this case, your result is somewhat better than mine, sharpness and focus being my main issues as well (that's for example what I meant on my last flower shot in reply to your comment).

And if you haven't figured it out yourself by now, ~karhit is right when he says it can be sharper (or crisper, or better focused)! Check out the Master's shot here: [link] - he is the water man, at least in my view.

Anyway, your shooting technique will improve, I am most certain,

Ingo

SCARY!!!! Waterdrop pics look simpler than they are, don't they?
Let me see yours... Lately I'm in love with these photos

Wow yes, the colored drops are amazing. Too bad it does not tell the camera settings

I don't dare to put mine up here, hahaha.

But go to Rich Allen's Gallery, dann in seine Tutorials, dann das zweite - er beschreibt sehr genau wie man das macht.

Oh yes, finding the right focus with drops is hard, because they're lenses themselves; you can focus on some point on the edge (usually what you want), or you can focus on the middle somewhere (sometimes what you want, depending what it's on), or you can focus on something on the other side, using it as a lens (and you'll see that thing sort of in focus, but upside down). I also found out how hard it is to get the right angle with DVDs, to get colors. It's so hard with snowflakes, because they have to be the right angle as well! Anyway, nicely done!

thank you for your kind words. I used manual focus and I kept on wondering why it looked good when I adjusted it, but turned out blurry when I actually took the picture. Probably shifted the camera an itsy bitsy tiny bit when pressing the button and lost focus.

Hmm, did you use a tripod? That really helps - and then of course use the 2 second (or 3, whatever your camera has) delay, to really get no vibration from your hand. Also, did you preview the aperture? Anyway, this one looks good!

Tanja0869 In reply to crimsonpenguin [2010-01-08 08:18:05 +0000 UTC]

thanks again, yes I did use a tripod, but not with delay. I should put a new battery in my remote. That might solve the problem. I did not think of that, bevause I was very carefull, not to shake the camera, but a macro is not very forgiving, even if you only touch it slightly I came to learn

crimsonpenguin In reply to Tanja0869 [2010-01-08 19:12:31 +0000 UTC]

Oh, a remote would work too - I don't have one myself. And yeah, macro and telephoto are both very sensitive to movement; macro telephoto even more so!

Hmm, this reminds me of the pink floyd cover.

It looks like a small robotic bug. I like how the water drop is very sharp, but you don't see any of the tracks burned into a Dvd. Good placement of depth of field.

It was a brand new DVD. Actually I wanted to make one of those glitter on waterdrop photos. No matter what I tried, it did not work out. They all looked awful.
Thanks! Believe me, I shot roughly 80 photos before I had the drop I wanted it. I do not understand why it was so hard to find the right focus
